Are these scams? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

When you go to the mall and someone is asking the customers if they are interested in modeling, are those scams? It happened to me, but I assumed it was a scam and told the guy I wasn't interested. It just seems like a way to rob people of a few bucks.

Sounds fishy to me too. I'd check them out first (e.g. google them on the internet, check the BBB, etc.) My gut instinct would be to avoid them.

some are and some aren't. the best thing to do is research the company before giving them money or signing agreements.

I know that Fashion Bug offers them, but they don't have people walking around the mall asking, they usually have advertisements in their stores or sign-up tables set up.

If you have to pay, then odds are it is a scam.

Exactly. If they ask you for any money at all, it's a scam. If they give you a business card and it's no money on your part, check into it.

That happened years ago to a girlfriend of mine. She was asked to be a hand model and the guy gave her a business card. Turned out it was true (she had her mom check into it).

I've been asked a couple of times, but it was for certain stores. Once it was when I was looking for a bridal gown and two stores wanted me to model in the Spring bridal show. I made $1500 for 10 days of work.

I also just got asked again recently for Danier (a leather company), however due to the economy, they pulled out of the show they were going to be in so it never went through.

Well if George Costanza can be a hand model, then I guess your friend can be one too.

That must have been nice for you "playing" a bride. Was this BF or AF?

It wouldn't have hurt to ask for a card. People are "discovered" everywhere. Next time.

Sounds like a scam to me. A legitimate business wouldn't insist that you give them money.

Yah, Andrea was short, but very pretty and petite. Her hands were beautiful. How he spotted that in a mall so quickly I'll never know!

It was actually LONG BF. I didn't even have a boyfriend at the time. My mom and I were on holidays just doing day trips and it was during the time when she was on my case about getting married and having kids. I suggested that since she may never see that day at the rate I was going, why not just go around playing like I was engaged.

So that's what we did - went around to about 4 places just trying on dresses for the fun of it. I actually did find the gown I wanted and when I was engaged (4 years later) I went back and it was still there - at a reduced price yet!

And yes.....that dress has still never been worn.....18 years later.....

Is that a picture of you in your avatar?? It kind of looks like "white chocolate", Jason Williams of NBA fame. If that's you though, I could definitely see you as a model. I'm a straight guy and all, but even I can recognize a good looking guy when I see one. It probably was a scam, but like Janice said, I would have asked for a card or something, just incase it was legitimate. I mean, it's worth a shot.

LOL - I should raffle it off on the internet or something, labelled as the dress and wedding that never was! I've even got the lace granny boots (never worn) in the original box.

And my "honeymoon nightie" got used for the first time only 3 weeks or so ago. And not seen by the original guy it was intended for.

No no. That is indeed Jason Williams, who is my favorite basketball player. The only thing we have in common is haircut, though I have dark hair.
