I Got Mary's Autograph Today! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The title pretty much explains my excitement.

I sent an e-mail to Mary about a month ago and today my brother handed my mom the mail and there was this big white envelope on the bottom and I instantly knew it was from Mary. I was like 'This is mine!' and ran off into my room to open it.

It has the picture of her from The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited and she signed it 'Hi Jessica, Mary Tyler Moore'. I'm so excited!

I'm glad for you, but I just have to ask one thing.

With these mail-in autographs, how do you know that it is actually signed by the person you requested? How do you know that it is not a copy, not signed by a representative, or signed by a robot-pen?

Personally, I don't go for mail-ins and all of the autographs that I have I got in person; so I know for sure that it was actually signed by the person.

I've collected autographs through the mail for years, and after a while, you just know. Preprints and autopens are VERY easy to detect, and after a while you learn people's signatures, or you can easily look them up. There's also a group of celebrities who are known to use secretaries (John Travolta, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rosanna Arquette, etc.). Mary is not a celebrity who is known to send fakes through the mail.

Mary's one of the best signers. There are so many people I'd like to write to, but I'm usually too intimidated and/or lazy, LOL.

Yes, I know that people have been doing mail-ins for a long time.

Myself, I just wouldn't do it. I just am better off knowing for sure that I got something signed by a person (right in front of me) and not question its authenticity. That's the way it is with me.

That's fine. But for me, I feel that I'm educated enough on the subject to not have to question the authenticity of the majority of the people I write.
