I just called 18008765353 and it tells you to leave a tip for a case and an address to write to for new story ideas. WHY are they taking new story ideas when they are NOT making new shows??? LOL!

What's even more stupid is the don't even mention this number on Spike's UM so this number serves even less purpose!! You would think Cosgrove/Spike wouldn't be so stupid as to leave this number out which obviously makes it a lost easier to leave a tip than going to a website since many out there still are not computer literate and some don't even have the internet while everyone has a phone.

I've brought this up recently as well.

Your right it's incredibly stupid to not be using the phone number if it's still active.

At the same time, it's obvious the show's only meant for "entertainment" purposes these days and not to actually solve any cases.

If they were actually trying to solve cases, they would use dates.... No dating on the cases, makes it virtually impossible to solve any of them, or to get reliable tips.

That's not necessarily true because if someone recognizes an event, person, place, etc. it's possible they could know something if they were around at that time so you don't really NEED dates but it would certainly be helpful.

But you are right that the show has DEVOLVED into just entertainment schtick instead of the cool, scary, documentary type show that it was. I'm surprised Cosgrove has stooped so low since they did such a good job before.

Don't you think it's possible Spike is forcing Cosgrove's hand to do it their way to some extent? It's just hard to believe Cosgrove could mess up so bad what was so good.

They've had that same message for at LEAST 10 years! LOL! Someone should post the address to send new story ideas. It could be the same address Kane posted for Cosgrove-Meuer.

Maybe if we flood them with enough new story ideas they'll do new shows!

Even if Cosgrove-Meurer got flooded with letters calling for new episodes to be filmed, they cannot take such an action until after Spike gives them the explicit order to do so. In other words, Spike would have to order new episodes before UM could film them, not the other way around. It's just common sense.

Although it couldn't hurt to write to UM to say you want them to film new episodes, the best strategy is to flood Spike with letters.

In this day and age of instantaneous communication with e-mail most people don't even bother to write old fashioned letter anymore. That's one of the reasons the post office is suffering and keeps asking for postage increases.

In other words, we are literally paying the price for the increasing indifference toward snail mail.

I think the idea of new UM episodes will only be in our dreams. Spike just doesn't seem to care enough and Cosgrove didn't do a very good job in repackaging these episodes unless Spike ordered them to do it a certain way.

I agree I don't think new episodes will ever happen. I wish Spike wouldn't drastically repackaged the episodes.

Here's my idea. Hand over the whole series to us, everything, don't hold back any episodes.

We're the actual fans, we'll get the thing up and running properly, do it justice, and get it aired on a decent network.

After that, new fans will understand what the show is all about and will be begging for new, fresh eppies. Money will be made all around, for CM, the network, and even for a fund to help find the missing, solve the cold cases, etc, etc.

I don't agree. If anything, I would say that there just won't be any new episodes in the immediate future.

TracyLynns: In response to your post above, in case money is a factor in the the lack of new episodes, maybe we should send money to Spike and/or Cosgrove-Meurer to help fund new episodes. I realize that it's probably a longshot, but this suggestion would be nothing new. In fact, something like this was offered by fans of Star Trek: Enterprise a few years ago, when they fought in vain to save that show from cancellation.

Back in the day, the word was that it was the fans who kept Designing Women from being cancelled. So I guess you never know...

And didn't the fans (and law enforcement) have a hand in getting AMW back on the air, or keep it from getting cancelled or something?

That's correct, TracyLynns. Fox canceled AMW in 1996, but a public outcry from viewers (including me), law enforcement agencies, and politicians (including 37 state governors) resulted in the show returning. AMW was off the air for six weeks before it was reinstated.

Thankfully, Fox realized that mistake sooner instead of later.

^I have been an ardent viewer of A.M.W. for twenty years (hard to believe), and I remember my dismay when it was cancelled. I appreciate what A.M.W. does in facilitating the capture of criminals and supporting victims, but I have never liked the show's bombastic, fast-cut style at all. In terms of artistry, A.M.W. isn't in anywhere near the same league as the original U.M.
