Default Making more healthy changes

For those of you who know me or maybe you don't.....I'm a type II diabetic. Went for my 6 month checkup about 2 weeks ago, while my sugar is making progress--resting/fasting was at 162, my cholesterol is being stubborn and my weight has crept back up. I was down at one point to 219, but it got back up to 245. So I knew I had to make better decisions regarding what I do and what I put in my mouth.

No more eating junk at break times--even though I convinced myself that a small bag of chips was not that bad, it all adds up. I've incorporated more fruits and veggies in my diet, avoid getting those quick drive thru meals, and prepare more grilled and oven baked lean meats.

I weighed myself today and I'm back down to 238, which is encouraging. I've also gotten myself back on the bike for at least a mile a day as well as the treadmill. I'm gonna work myself back up to a more active life, rather than just plopping down in the recliner or sitting behind the computer during my free time.

My mom bought a Flavor Wave oven--yes, the one Mr.T hawks on TV, and we are trying it out for the first time today with a beef shoulder roast and baked sweet potatoes. Smells good in the kitchen!!

Thumbs up

That is great to hear you are working on getting healthier. I wish you all the best of luck. I know its hard but you will feel so much better when you get down closer to your ideal weight. My late grandma had diabetes almost her whole life. It is a struggle to maintain your sugar levels and you do have to sacrafice not eating some of your favorite foods for your own good. So anyways... good luck.

What is bad is that every thing has to be considered--my sugar, my sodium, cholesterol, carbs, etc.....after researching some stuff, it is astounding how much we are actually killing ourselves with the choices we make concerning food.

My older brother died way too young (41) due to diabetic complications.

Im sorry to hear that.

Yeah there is so much junk in foods. I never really cared much about it until I became pregnant. Then I was so worried about what I was eating. Now I am even more concerned about what I feed my son. All these nitrates, hormones, and chemicals that they put in food is so bad for you, not to mention all the sodium. I try to eat a lot more organic foods more then ever and fruits & veggies always are a great choice.

it helps when you have support around you....my mom generally has to follow the same type of food program.

I'm just shocked at how much food manufactuers rely on sodium, high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients so much time and again.
