anybody else here into listening to old radio shows--be it tape, CD, mp3 files?
I was always interested but only recently have gotten into big time with CDs of "My Favorite Husband" (Lucille Ball's radio predecessor to I Love Lucy) and "Father Knows Best" ( a two volume set). I eventually want to explore even more sitcoms and even dramas like "Suspense". And perhaps, even do the audiobooks thing like this since my actual reading time with novels, etc has just vanished within the past 5 years. I listen in my car to and from my job, during my breaks and my lunch hour. |

I used to work Graveyard shift and there were a couple of radio stations that played old radio shows late at night. I got really into listening to the old radio shows. My favorites include Burns and Allen, Fibber McGee and Molly, The Life of Riley, The Shadow, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, The Whistler, X minus 7, The Jack Benny Program, and My Favorite Wife.

I don't know if you can really consider this old time radio, but I use to love listening to the Art Bell show each morning. I wish it were still around.

Have 90 dvds, in mp3 format of old time radio. With upwards of over 400 shows on a dvd, that's quite a bit of radio. Still listen to it as I always loved radio. Can remember as a kid, huddled under the blankets on a cold winter night, shaking not from the cold but hearing the voice of "lights out" Never missed the shadow on sunday night and have listened to all that exist. I, too, have collected old radio shows on various formats (LP records, audio
cassettes and CDs). They're a lot of fun to listen to because they are very entertaining and like a time capsule of a bygone era. My collection includes: LP Records Casablanca (Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman)/Casbah (Tony Martin) Dragnet (Jack Webb, Barton Yarborough, Raymond Burr) Old Time Radio (compilation) Golden Age of Comedy (compilation) Life of Riley (William Bendix) Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis Show (1st show; with Lucille Ball) Red Skelton - Rogues Gallery/Fuller Brush Man Cassettes Jack Benny Show Chase & Sanborn Hour (Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy) Popeye the Sailor (circa 1935) America Salutes the President's Birthday (1944; Franklin D. Roosevelt) Whatever Became Of ...? (1967; Buffalo Bob Smith; Al Hodge) Philco Radio Time/The Mel Blanc Show Charlie McCarthy Show (with W.C. Fields) Greatest Old-Time Radio Christmas Show/Jack Benny Program [free sampler] Greatest Shows of the 20th Century/The Life of Riley (1948) [free sampler] My Little Margie/Meet Millie No School Today (Big Jon & Sparkie) Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Danny Kaye)/You Could Look It Up (William Frawley) The Shadow (Orson Welles) Themes Like Old Times (compilation) [free sampler] CDs Suspense (1950; Cary Grant) [free sampler] Bob Hope - Thanks for the Memory Laurel & Hardy - On the Air (1932-1959) Lux Radio Theatre: Christmas Holiday (1945; William Holden) [free sampler] Lux Radio Theatre: All My Sons (1950; Burt Lancaster) [free sampler] War of the Worlds (1938; Orson Welles) DVDs Gunsmoke (William Conrad) Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy Show Life of Riley (William Bendix) Our Miss Brooks (Eve Arden) |

If you can play mp3's, I can send you 2 cds with about 130 eps. of the Aldrich family. One of the great signatures lines of radio. "Henry, Henry Aldrich, coming mother" Harvey |

Thanks for the offer, Harvey.
![]() Does anyone know if Laurel & Hardy ever did radio? I have an old LP with six L&H radio shows, but I don't know if these were just actors taking on the personas of L&H. Still I enjoyed having that record since I was a kid and one day hoped to get it converted to mp3s. |

Harvey The boys from across the pond put out a beautiful 22 dvd set of Laurel and Hardy, silents and talkies, in pristine condition. Watched it three times. By far the best comedic pair. |

I listed to Old Time Radio quite a bit when I was in high school! We had a show on WNIB Radio back in the '70s called Those Were The Days, and it was hosted by Chuck Schaden. He would play some really awesome shows like Gunsmoke, Jack Benny, Take It Or Leave It (which became The $64,000 Question on TV), and others. I really enjoyed listening to the big band remotes that were played every now and then!

I dont know if this counts as old time radio (it probably dosent), but I like to listen to original radio broadcasts from the 50's and 60's. Not just the songs but the radio announcments, weather, news, commericials, and the old jingles.
