Halloween's Michael Myers Unmasked - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Since I love Michael Myers as much as I love Jason Voorhees it seemed fair to me to give Myers the same treatment. Michael Myers is not like Jason who's face was seen in pretty much every movie; Michael's face was hardly ever shown.

Here are the few times the audience gets to see Michael Myers unmasked with little backstory information:

Halloween -1978

A 6 year old Michael Myers appears unmasked in the beginning of the film. After he murders his 17 year old sister he walks outside and runs into his parents. His father takes Michael's mask off and the camera pans away.

An adult Michael Myers, age 21, appears unmasked next. He is currently locked away in a minimum security mental hospital until he turns 21 to be put on trial as an adult. As his psychiatrist goes to pick him up to take him to court Michael is waiting for them to arrive.

When the station wagon pulls into the gate Michael jumps onto the back of the car, throws the nurse out, and drives off. Michael is seen for a brief second during this.

At the end of the film Michael is seen unmasked briefly once more. Jamie Lee Curtis is able to get away from him and she pulls the mask over his eyes. After Michael puts the mask back on his psychiatrist shoots at him 6x and he falls off the balcony.

Halloween (The Television Version) - 1980

In 1980, 2 years after Halloween's release, NBC bought the rights to air Halloween on their channel. However it was deemed to violent to air the whole movie on public television and when it was edited there was not enough footage to cover the 2 hour timeslot.

John Carpenter and some of the actors from Halloween returned to the studio to film brand new scenes made specifically for the tv-version that came to 12 minutes long.

In one of these scenes Michael appears as a child in the mental hospital sitting silently looking out the window.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - 1989

After the end of the 4th installment, Michael was just shot at and had dynamite thrown at him. He manages to make it to a hobo's shack and then passes out for a year.

The next year Michael wakes up from his coma and you see him briefly when he sits up.

Near the end of the film Michael's niece Jamie manages to convince him to take off his mask and she then says that he looks like her. She notices a tear coming from his eye and as she tries to wipe it off him Michael snaps back into his rage and tries to kill her. He puts the mask back on after that.

Halloween 6: The Producer's Cut - 1995

To Halloween fans this is one of the must-have items to get a hold of.

In 1995 the rights for a Halloween sequel were given to Dimension films; under Miramax. Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers was complete and was shown for test screening. After the viewers gave this version a poor reception the fim was then sent back into production to be worked with.

The film was re-shot and re-editied so much that it almost became a different film as some major plotpoints and explanations were completely deleted or re-written. Also, Donald Pleasance who had played Dr. Loomis for 5 films has passed away when the film went back into production and as a result they had to completely change the ending which had him live in the original version.

What was originally known as Halloween 6 has been long circulating in the bootleg circuits for years under the title The Producer's Cut. It has never been officially released by the studio and contains about 43 minutes of different footage that did not make the final film.

When the final version was completed the 6 was omitted and it was called Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

According to the ending of The Producer's Cut, the curse that keeps Michael alive and drives him to kill has now been passed onto his psychiatrist. Dr. Loomis has become the new "Michael" and now Michael has taken the role of his watcher. A scene showing Michael unmasked wearing a black trenchcoat and fedora was seen at the end of the film.

Halloween - 2007

In the beginning of the film we see a 10 year old Michael Myers begin to self-destruct and we see what turns him into the psychopath later on.

As an adult Michael Myers is seen unmasked a few times but it is never in a clear shot. You either see the back of his head or his long hair covers his face completely. The photo above is taken from a movie poster.

I would love to see the "producer's cut" of Halloween 6.

The original version makes no sense whatsoever.

Yeah, what came out to be the 6th sequel really was a stinker.

The Producer's Cut is a much better version and I am surprised the studio hasn't released it already. I keep hearing various rumors and what not that it is "finally" coming out but I just don't see it happening.

I picked up a VHS copy of it about 10 years ago at a fan convention. The quality of it was crap but you had no choice because there was no where else to get a copy of it.

I still say this version is a lot better than what was released as Halloween 6.

They tried to give Michael a reason for his madness and use cults,evil conspiracies, and magic... what have you.

This got stupid and it's the reason why the later films completely disregard any of this. H20 and Resurrection ignore 4-6.

Alright TJL, after a while of searching around I have come across two movies that have done this (film new footage for a tv broadcast).

-One is Heston's 1974 Earthquake. NBC aired Earthquake on their channel in 1976 and new footage was filmed so the film could be shown in two nights. The new television scenes dealt with a married couple on board a flight attempting to land during the earthquake.

-The other one is Heston's 1976 Two-Minute Warning. Once again it was at the hands of NBC for them to film new scenes for the tv broadcast when it aired in 1978.
The new scenes came to a half-hour long whereas 40 minutes from the original release were removed. The new scenes featured an art heist with a sniper acting as a decoy.

I found a few more films that added in new scenes for a television broadcast:

- Peter Cushing's 1963 The Evil of Frankenstein.

- The 1962 version of The Phantom of the Opera.

- Kiss of the Vampire from 1963. It was called Kiss of Evil on television.

As stupid as the plot in part 6 got, it's still nowhere as stupid as Resurrection(Busta Rhymes alone was enough to make the film a joke), I like part 4(probably my favorite sequel of the series), and part 5(despite the silly deputy moments)
