Default Debra Wolfe

This case was aired sometime this week, I was happy since I hadn't seen it in years and was really hoping for an update but didn't get one.

This is the case of the woman in Fayeteville NC was found drownd in the lake/pond (whatever it was) on her land and she was found inside a burn barrell, but police say the diver was mistaken and it was her shirt blown out. I always found that extremely funny...even underwater I would think you could tell if it was a large barrell or not.

So my ? is do you believe Debra was murdered or was her death accidental?

I didn't see the re-air this week, but my impression has ALWAYS been that she was murdered. I'm sorry I don't have details readily available to back that up...other than the obvious barrel issue. Very sad case.

I've always felt it was murder. There were two or three men who could have been suspects. One even left town soon after her murder.

The cops bungled the case from beginning to end and that's why they had to use the "billowing jacket" excuse. They never really treated anything like a crime scene. They let friends of the victim's family dive the pond to the look for her body. I can't remember why the cops didn't find her, but the friends found her almost immediately.

Her body was dressed in someone else's clothes. Some of them were men's clothing. That was another weird thing.

Anyway, to believe the cops theory of accidental drowning, we have to accept that a well educated nurse would walk into her own pond (well known to her, it's not like she stumbled on it accidentally and fell in), fully clothed, and after about 5 days, was still on the bottom, never floating to the surface.

IMO, she was partially in the burn barrel, just as the diver said he found her, and that's one reason her body stayed at the bottom for so long. The weight of the metal barrel held her upper body down.

While it would be nice to hear a differing opinion on the issue, I'm going to have to echo what other posters said. I always thought this was a murder.

The thing that always struck me as odd about this case was the fact that the police initially acknowledged that Debbie's body was found in a barrel. Then they recanted that statement and tried to say that there was no barrel despite the fact that some independent witnesses had already seen it.

While I don't necessarily believe that the police had anything sinister to hide, I do think that they mishandled this investigation and were possibly trying to save face.

I have watched this segment many, many times throughout the years and always felt (like everyone else here) that she met with foul play. Debbie's mother seems like a very straight forward, no nonsense person and I believe her take on what happened to Debbie: The mysterious messages left on Debbie's answering machine, the missing burn barrel, Debbie's unfed dogs running all over the place, her work clothes being found strewn all over the kitchen floor and the mens clothing found on Debbie's body. Also, Debbie car was found not parked in the usual spot where Debbie would park it. Inside of it was a mess and according to her mom, Debbie was a neat person. Also the driver's seat was pushed way back. The police not believing Debbie's mother about the missing burn barrel is baffling. You can clearly see the imprint of where it stood on the ground! And then it was found in the pond with her body in it! This is one of those cases where it's clear that the police mishandled it.

Debbie also lived secluded away from close neighbors and to me it sounds reasonable that someone either knew this or someone came along and took advantage that she was alone.

All the clues point to Debbie being murdered and not just tripping and drowning in the middle of the lake. The fact that the family had to ask a friend to dive and search for her shows that the police didn't give any importance to Debbie being missing.
