Thumbs up Jamie Foxx's "Blame It"; featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, and Ron Howard

Jamie Foxx Taps Ron Howard, Jake Gyllenhaal for New Video
Posted Mar 3rd 2009 12:30PM by Latifah Muhammad

Ever had a night where you wanted to blame it on the alcohol? Well, Jamie Foxx has turned what could be an embarrassing moment into his smash No. 1 hit Blame It, featuring T-Pain, and an even funnier music video. Mr. Foxx doesn't do anything small so he checked his celebrity Rolodex and called on some of Hollywood's biggest names for cameos.

For Foxx, getting Academy Award nominated actors Samuel L. Jackson, Forest Whitaker and Jake Gyllenhaal, and director Ron Howard in one room, is all in a day's work. "We didn't have a lot of money for the video. We called Hype Williams and said 'Hype this is a video that you should have your stamp on,'" Foxx told The BoomBox. "Then during the inaugural [ceremony] I was talking to Ron Howard. I said 'Ron would you be in a music video? I have the song of the year it's called Blame It. Will you do it?' He said 'Sure I'll do it. Just give me a call."

Foxx used Howard's appearance as a bargaining tool to bait Whitaker, Gyllenhaal, and Jackson. They all agreed but the actor/musician admits he didn't think anyone would actually show. Not only did they show up but so did a man wearing a panda bear head, which Foxx insisted on for a little comic relief. "I'm laying in the bed late night...and a panda bear head popped in my head. I called my man Bryon, I said 'I don't know why but I see a panda bear head being in the video for no reason.'" [Laughs].

Despite all those big names, including Quincy Jones, Cedric the Entertainer and Morris Chestnut, the most important cameo for Foxx was his younger sister Deondra Dixon, who has Down Syndrome. Dixon begged her older brother to dance in the video. He agreed, calling her performance "the heart of the video."

Now with Blame It atop the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B charts, and his third album, Intuition, on track for platinum status, touring is on Foxx's mind -- but not with Jennifer Hudson as previously reported. "I would be so obliged if she would allow me to do that but I know she's on tour with Robin Thicke." However, Foxx will hit the stage to promote his album after he finishes working on Law Abiding Citizen, with Gerard Butler. The legal drama is due to hit theaters in March 2010. Foxx also plans on returning to his comedic roots and launching a comedy tour next year.

I saw Blame It On The Alcohol video and i was surprised to see Ron Howard and Jake in the video. Samuel Jackson was lounging and smoking while women were around him LOL. I saw Cedric, Morris Chestnut, Forest also. The song is alright and there's some cute girls in it. Why do so many r&b artists and rappers collaborate with T-Pain? His music sucks and he's ugly LOL.

i don't get it.

"I'm On A Boat" was better, and I think they shoulda had Don Rickles in the Panda suit at the end. Maybe even Bob Newhart - it shoulda been a twist.

LOL, his expression when he first appears in the car looks like he doesn't want to be there.

Foxx Offered Howard Video Cameo At Obama's Inauguration
27 April 2009 6:40 PM, PDT

Moviemaker Ron Howard was shocked to be offered a cameo role in one of Jamie Foxx's music videos - because he was busy celebrating U.S. President Barack Obama's inauguration at the time.

Howard was enjoying the Democrat's induction into office in January, when he was approached by the singer to star in the video for Blame It, alongside other actors Forrest Whittaker, Jake Gyllenhaal and Samuel L. Jackson.

But Howard was wary of accepting the offer - because he was worried he wouldn't be able to play the role of a party animal.

He tells EW.com, "We were at the inauguration and there was this tent full of showbiz people and their families. Jamie came over and said, 'Hey, I’m shooting a video in Los Angeles, will you come by?' I was picturing a sort of We Are The World thing.

"So I showed up, and Jamie said, 'It's this party scene, and you're going to drive up with Jake Gyllenhaal and Forest Whitaker and me. The only thing is that you’ve got to wear your party face.' I said, 'I don’t think you want my party face, because this is it. That may not be what you want.' Jamie and the director, Hype Williams, said, 'No, we want your game face, very serious.'

"So we’re getting ready to roll and all we hear from the director is, 'Uh, hey Ron, no smiling, remember, real serious, real serious,' and, 'Ron, No Smiling, No Smiling,' and, 'Ron, No Smiling!' and, 'Action!' So we did that a couple of times, and then we went in and sat with the girls and toasted champagne.

"I had no idea what in the world it was or what I was doing. I do not have a secret night-clubbing side. I’m the opposite of a big pimpin’ kind of dude. Probably the last time I was in a club was doing research for Night Shift in 1981."
