Default Big Bang Theory gets renewed for two additional seasons

How does CBS feel about Chuck Lorre comedies? Really good apparently. Word is, the network has just picked up Two and a Half Men for three additional seasons, while The Big Bang Theory has been given the green light for another two. A nice vote of confidence, no?

Thoughts?

If true, this give "Big Bang" a secure spot in syndication for the 2011-12 season.

I believe there's either 6 or 8 episodes left of the seasons (depending on if its a 22 or 24 episode order).

This is great news - rightfully deserved, of course. This also gives BBT 2 more years to grow. Knowing that this show isn't going anywhere will definitely give new viewers a good reason to watch, since there's no worries of cancellation.

I believe he or she is confused because last year's season was cut short due to the strike. Last year had 17 episodes, and next week is episode 17 of season 2. I'm guessing we'll see 24 episodes.

Here is an interesting article from Variety saying the renewal may take a little time, but it is coming :

I still think an early renewal will come soon. This show is steady for every new episode. Viewers are coming in, even against stiff competition (this week was The Bachelor, next week will be DWTS and daylight savings time). I think its time below 10 million viewers is long gone, and CBS realizes what a treasure this show is and will be.

I think the show's biggest hurdle now will be daylight savings time. The show had House come in to the time slot, and its ratings stayed about the same, now The Bachelor went wild this week, and BBT's ratings were about "normal". However, daylight savings time could be a problem. It is going to be completely light out, especially in the central and mountain time zones while the show airs, and soon the weather will be getting better. People, and especially younger people, stay outdoors. They do not watch TV early in the night. I remember how it dipped last year late in the season. The 8:00 show takes a hit with DST, even much more than the 8:30 show.

BBT faced The Bachelor this Monday, and its ratings stayed about the same, which should mean good news for the show when DWTS starts airing this Monday. Daylight savings time could be a problem but I still think it'll be okay. If people like the show and have been watching it all winter, why would they stop now just because its lighter outside? Ratings may dip slightly, but they'd probably make it up in DVR numbers.

Ugh, I saw the ratings from 3/9. I said previously I thought Daylight savings time would hit, and maybe even a punch from DWTS, but I never thought it would drop under 10 million already. With the weather getting better and better, and it staying light longer we could be heading under 9 million by the end of the season. I really thought this show had become strong and stabilized enough to withstand the weather and competition. A little disappointing to see such a drop already.

I think both had a lot to do with it, but Dancing as I said would be the main concern. If it was daylight savings, then Dancing would have been off, too. It was up from its fall premiere.

I agree. I thought it would drop, but it was steeper than I thought. I thought the show would at least stabilize at 10 million. I guess everything was down. Even House was down last night.
