Former EastEnders actress Wendy Richard has died aged 65, her agent has confirmed. The star, who played Pauline Fowler in the BBC One soap opera, had been suffering from cancer. Her agent Kevin Francis said: "She was incredibly brave and retained her sense of humour right to the end." Last October, Richard revealed she had an aggressive, terminal form of cancer. Soon after that she married her long-term partner John Burns. Francis said the star passed away in the Harley Street Clinic in London with her husband by her side. In an interview with the Sunday Express last year, Richard revealed she had already planned her funeral and written her will. She discovered the disease had returned after her usual annual check-up, which revealed cancerous cells in her left armpit. She told the paper: "Now I have a cancerous growth on my right kidney and the cancer has spread to my bones. "It's more aggressive this time, unfortunately, and has spread to the top of my spine and left ribs." In 2007 Richard was awarded the MBE for services to television and in 2007 she was awarded a British Soap Award for Lifetime Achievement for her role in EastEnders. On top of her 21 years on Albert Square, Richard starred in sitcoms Are You Being Served?, Dad's Army and Grace and Favour. She joined EastEnders when the programme began in 1985 and remained in it until 2006, when her character died. The reason she gave for her departure was because she objected to producers making her character remarry. |

R.I.P., Wendy. I will always remember you as Miss Brahms on "Are You Being Served?"

That's very sad news about Wendy -- I watched Are You Being Served? for years and enjoyed her performance so much -- she will be missed.

I enjoyed her work so much as Miss Brahms on "Are You Being Served" and "Grace And Favour". I'm sorry she's gone but glad her suffering is over.

I'll always remember her as the perky, upbeat Miss Brahms on Are You Being Served also.
Wow, considering she was just about the youngest of the cast, it really makes you sad to think even she's gone now. |

We always enjoyed 'Are you being served' and Wendy's role as Miss Brahms. RIP, Wendy!
(About that show, a friend and I watched it regularly and nicknamed our boss at the time, "Captain Peacock". We still laugh about it; they (our boss and the Captain) were so much alike. |

I've not seen Wendy in anything other than Are You Being Served?, and the second series (titled Are You Being Served, Again? in the US) but I'm a big fan of what we call in the US "Britcoms" and I love AYBS? In fact, it was the first "Britcom" that I ever watched and it hooked me for life! I'm sorry to see that Wendy has passed; but if she was suffering, I'm glad it's over, for her sake. We'll miss you!
