TV What local newscasts do you watch?

My favorite local newscast to watch is FOX 25 WFXT out of Boston, MA. I like the anchors. They have their fun while still remaining professional. They have lots of local coverage and great tips and useful information on a variety of topics. They don't go overboard with sensationalism and graphics. I just find them very informative and fun to watch.

My absolute least favorite local newscast is the NBC affiliate, WHDH 7. They are a huge joke, IMHO. Too much sensation, too many obnoxious graphics, too many "breaking stories", and too much national and celebrity news. (I watch local news for LOCAL news!) I don't take them seriously as a news station at all. They're a trashy tabloid.

KSBW CH 8-- Covers Monterey, Salinas, Southern SF Bay Area and CA central coast.

This local NBC affiliate's been around a long time. Same weather and sports guys for decades. The anchors themselves are great. This station, though covering a large market, still has a hometown feel about it, while remaining professional. A high school sports focus feature really adds to the community feeling. Their weather and traffic updates are absolutely the best.

They do other things too: Honoring local teachers, with their 'crystal apple' award. Good teachers are nominated by their students.

Elementary school kids send in artwork relating to the weather, which is shown every day, acknowledging the student who sent it.

The sports and weather anchors have a fun little quiz for viewers every day.

I could go on and on. I just love watching KSBW.

Except for weather updates, I don't watch any of the local newscasts. I used to years ago when they actually gave you 30 minutes worth of news, Back then I could get all the local and national headlines, weather and sports and maybe a human-interest story or 2. During baseball or any other sports season, Highlights of every game was shown and now that's been reduced to highlights of the so-called local pro teams and only scores from the rest. My biggest gripe though is that these stations will hype a story all day long to get you to tune in at 6pm and it's almost always the very last thing they mention.

Sometimes I watch KABC-7, KNBC-4, KCAL-9 Los Angeles and KEYT-3 Santa Barbara, there are two media markets in my area. When I lived in Santa Barbara, I liked KSBY-6 San Luis Opisbo and KCOY-12 Santa Maria.

Did a guy named Robert LeHockey do sports for KSBY-6? If so, his mom worked with me years ago. Nice family. Nice people. I'd heard that he'd gotten a job there, but this was a few years back.

Usually I get my news either from an all-news radio station or from the Internet.

Most of the TV anchors here in Chicago are wack jobs - too hyper and too much into themselves rather than the stories they're covering. But, If I have to watch local news, I'll probably watch WGN-TV News. As far as I'm concerned, they're the only straight shooters on the block.

I'll catch FOX 8 too as well as WKYC-3, Cleveland's NBC Universal affiliate.

Dick Goddard was mentioned a lot for a local weatherman.

On very few occasions, I'll watch WHBQ (Memphis Fox affilliate)'s 11:00 AM midday news, but that's about it.

KCCI, the CBS affiliate. I hate the lady anchor during the week, but I tolerate her. Our good one went to WCCO in Minneapolis. booooooooooooo

WHO, the NBC affiliate, sucks so bad it's not even funny. The male anchor looks like he fries himself in a tanning bed for 4 hours every day. He also takes himself way too seriously; he thinks he's pretty damn good. HA. And the female anchor has a mouth big enough to swallow the whole city.
