What Is It About This Show That People Say It Was The Best Thing Out Of The 1990s? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Myself, I am not a Seinfeld fan. It's not that I don't like the show but I honestly never actually sat down to watch a full episode of this. Something about it just didn't gather my interest so I just never bothered with this show.

Now, on a lot of polls, reviews, best of lists... Seinfeld most of the time always comes out with the #1 spot. Some people say that this was the best show in the 90s and some even say it is the best show ever.

Now, what about Seinfeld exactly earns them this title? Seinfeld fans would you say it deserves the great reputation it has of being the best?

Remember you're talking to someone who doesn't know anything about this show.

I guess it's just because the show was so quirky, had unlikeable characters and built entire episodes around mundane topics (waiting in line forever for a table at a restaurant, losing your car in a parking garage, etc.). Many people could relate.

That's MY take on it, anyway.

Yes, this show is very relate-able. It is also well written and well cast. From the central cast to recurring characters to guest stars they had a nack of getting just the right person for the part. And this show never ever failed to deliver laughs.

Yes, there were tons of funny minor characters on the show. I think the situations grew more outlandish in the last couple of seasons, but I also think Jerry & co. knew that the show was running out of gas by that point. I still give them props for ending it at the top of their game.

JamesG - a fair question. But a toughie to nail down conscisely, so I'll use an analogy:

It's a bit like asking why people love the Beatles so much. After all, they didn't invent rock and roll. And yet...here we are 50 years later, and people all over the world still love their music. And the reason is - their music innovated. They used all the same instruments, skills and tools other people used, but used them to expand the canvas, create new possibilities. Like saying, "You know, I could use this knob to do....THIS." But at the same time that new sound appealed to the broadest possible audience, like it had been there all along, just waiting for someone to finally express it. That's a trick very few artists ever achieve.

The Beatles changed how popular music was conceived, recorded and produced, and for the better. They were light years ahead of their peers, and set the bar for everyone else who came along.

Well...what the Beatles are to pop music, Seinfeld is to comedy.

I think like people have said its relateable, but also they were basicly making fun of themselves and how serious they took their idiotic problems. The bloopers of the show really shows this I think.
