Talking You Know You're A Grown Up When......

(I got this thread idea from Redbookmagazine, where they have a column on how you know you're a grown up,)

These are my thoughts though...

You know you're a grown up when people aren't excusing themselves for cursing in front of you(You know, how people feel bad for cursing in front of chidldren, fearing that the child will follow their bad example?)

You know you're a grown up when people say, "That's none of your business," to you(when you're a child, and you ask a personal question, the blame is put on your parents.. people may say, "You really should be teaching your child to mind thei own business)

You know you're a grownup when...you start taking life seriously - VERY seriously.

When you think almost all the progamming on TV LAND and Nick at Nite is for 'whippersnappers'!

You know when you're grown up when people under 14 think that you're old.

You know you are grown up when you have to choose between taking a trip home, or taking your vehicle to the shop...

And realizing that nothing is as simple as it once was...

When (as a teacher) you have students whose parents used to be your students!

You know you're a grown up when you say, "Because I said so!"(usually to your own kids)

When you have a 20 year old daughter.....(even if you had sex at a very young age, you'd still be an adult if your biological daughter is 20... hell, even SHE'S an adult)

A couple of my co-workers have the children of their former students. Heck, one teacher even has the GRANDDAUGHTER of one of the students she had her very first year of teaching.

I'd better retire soon, because that possibility is not too far off for me either!
