Lol I Think This Is The Worst Gimmick In Pro Wrestling - The Turkey "Gobbledy Gooker"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GF_PM5j5aQ - The opening of this failure.

This is regarded as one of the biggest flops, perhaps the biggest flop in WWF/E history.

At the 1990 Thanksgiving Survivor Series event they had an oversized egg ready to hatch that they had been promoting heavily. Inside the egg came out The Gobbledy Gooker, played by Hector Guerrero, in a full turkey costume.

He came out to a lackluster opening with fans booing heavily right away. The turkey and ring announcer "Mean" Gene Okerlund then proceeded to dance and jump around the ring while the commentators tried to sound enthusiastic.

It was regarded as a joke and a disaster and the Gooker was retired. The character was never mentioned for years until years later it made a surprising re-appearance at the "Gimmick Battle Royal" where the character was thrown out of the ring; officially bringing the end to this bizarre character.

I have to agree, Hector must have been paid very well to suffer such humiliation. Terry Taylor's Red Rooster and Dustin Runnels' Golddust are right up there as well.

Cool

In TNA wrestling they have a match on their pre-thanksgiving broadcast each year where the losing wrestler is forced to put on an ugly, smelly Turkey costume. At least in this case its a punishment not a gimmick.

I was a wrestling fan back then, and I remember how disappointed I was when the chicken came out of the egg. After months of hyping up this "surprise" out came this chicken in the costume! I thought it was a wrestling who we hadn't seen in a while.

You know, it's such a shame Hector's talents were wasted on this. He appeared to be very athletic doing those flips and bouncing off the ropes in that suit.

What about the ring announcer's humiliation too?

The name wasn't all that was bad with this.

Oh this was a surprise alright. Nobody ever saw anything like this and hopefully nobody ever will in the future.

Did you see the faces of the audience when the camera panned to them?
