Why did Esther and Woody adopt a GROWN MAN?-lolo - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

That supposed to be teen they adopted was defintely out of highschool and not sure why the producers didn't do a better job in casting a teenager for that part. It was clear that the guy who played their adopted son was in his early 20's and looked strange leaving with them as their adopted son.

by the way, his real age in this episode when this episode aired on NBC was 25

This was a very normal practice in the 70's. For example the actors portraying the sweathogs on Welcome Back Kotter were in their 20's although their characters were in the 10th grade. Also Ron Howard, Anson Williams, and Donny Most were in their 20's while playing high school students on Happy Days.

I think it had to do with labor laws. Minors were only allowed to work a limited number of hours. Since this would have interfered with the production schedule they hired older actors(who could work as many hours as necessary) to play younger parts.

Ya'll are so naive! Was it not apparent that Woody was always so drunk that he could not fullfill his husbandly duties? Esther needed someone to fill this void! (And Big Money Grip was nowhere to be found!)

I thought it stranger that they used the same actor to be Woody and Esther's son that they used in the Ebenezer Sanford ep.

Check this out. Eric is a lot better looking now (imo), at age 57, and if you look closely, I think his hair is just a little bit shorter than when he was on S&S! :-)

His hair is a LOT shorter than when he was on Sanford and Son. He still looks the same, just older.

He does look pretty much the same, I guess it was his Afro that I found so unattractive.
