Wink ABC Developing a "Back To You" Trifecta!

ABC has several family-oriented laffers in development, including the Patricia Heaton starrer "The Middle," the comedy "18 to Life" and the Chris Lloyd/Steve Levitan entry "My American Family." The Alphabet also has a multicam sitcom in the works starring Kelsey Grammer.

I think ABC might become television's best network next year if they return to the glory days of family sitcoms. The only question is if America will still tune in?

I think they would if ABC is serious about this. I would!

I agree. ABC is going to have a killer sitcom block next season. The only tough thing my be that they're all new - they don't have a veteran comedy that can help lead-off a block of multicamera sitcoms.

I'm really looking forward to "The Middle". It sounds like it'll be a great show. Also looking forward to Kelsey's new sitcom, along with "My American Family." I also hope Surviving Suburbia does well this April.

Cool

They may not have a veteran sitcom to anchor this comedy block. But what they do have is some of the best known and well respected names in the comedy business involved in these shows. Names like Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer in front of the camera and Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd behind. That's what they need to capitalize on in their advertising. If they do that they will be fine.

If and when these shows come to fruition, let's just hope ABC gives them ample time to develop.

I sure hope so - it just seems like networks are unwilling to give shows a chance to build a following. Cheers debuted at #82 or something like that, and now it's one of the most beloved shows of all time. Let's hope the networks keep that in mind.

That's one of the sorry things about networks and TV today. Shows aren't given the proper chances to be hits. 1 season of so-so ratings and they're ousted. ABC seems to be pretty good with that, though.

So many shows have had rocky first seasons - Cheers, MASH, Everybody Loves Raymond, All in the Family, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld just to name a few, and look how successful those turned out to be.
