Pretty sure it's true and pretty sure it's NOT coming from Sony.

I don't get why you say it's not coming from Sony, but at this point, who cares? I'm SO glad it's coming at ALL. We've been waiting WAY too long for this!

I think Shout! is releasing this one, which is excellent news. We will get more seasons much faster than Sony ever would.

All you have to do is look at the studio listing on the page at Wal Mart. Pav's right, and believe me DW fans are lucky it's NOT Sony who is releasing this or else you would never get passed season one

I can finally stop watching my bootleg dvds. Although the set I have has decent picture quality, its from the TVLand reruns, so you know some scenes were cut out of each episode to make way for more ads.

It is indeed true. Here's the link: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Des...-Box-Art/11319

And yes, it's NOT coming from Sony, which is a good thing because we'd probably get Season 2 from them 5 years from now.

The package art is gorgeous. I'm really looking forward to this release. Thank you Shout!

I'm hoping Seasons 1 & 2 of "Valerie" come from Shout! before long. If it does, hopefully it won't come out as "The Hogan Family" Seasons 1 & 2. Either way, I'd love to have it.

Gotta give Shout! a lot of credit. They're releasing some awesome series in the coming months. I just hope they sell well to warrant more releases. With the economy going the way it is, it is risky.

Season 1 of "Designing Women" can't come fast enough!

I'd love to see Valerie/The Hogan Family from Shout! also but it's not going to happen. At least not in the immediate future. They've already said it would be extemely difficult to try to license something from WB. But we have to remember that not so long ago everyone was saying Sony would never license their shows out, but look at what's coming now!

When did they say this? I don't recall ever seeing this. Do you have a link perhaps to the post where they've said that WB won't license anything out? I believe you, mind you; I'm just having a "foggy memory moment" right now.

If WB holds off releasing the rights to "Valerie"/"The Hogan Family" but does nothing with the show itself, I fail to see the logic on WB's part in doing this. The very least, any company that they'd license the show to (like Shout!) would have to pay some sort of licensing fee/royalties. Then WB could collect $$ in that form in place of not getting anything at all.

WB also has had little success in having the show syndicated. Methinks the wrongful firing of VALERIE HARPER made more of a mess for the producers than they anticipated. Many prefer the "Valerie" era to the "post-Valerie" era simply because the writing was sharper, but there are more SANDY DUNCAN episodes to fish around. I love SANDY DUNCAN and there were many gems with the episodes she starred in, but the writing overall was much more exaggerated and silly than it was during "Valerie". I think SANDY deserved better in my opinion.

In any case, I think it's why the show is hardly remembered except for us few die-hards, which is a pity. I still think it warrants a DVD release and I still hold out hope that we'll get it.

There was a time when "Designing Women" looked like it wouldn't come out except for the "Best Of" collection from a few years ago (which I've watched to death by the way). I'm elated that we'll finally see this great show in UNEDITED form. I love LIFETIME for the many years it aired the show but even they had to make edits to accommodate more commercials.

How is Shout!'s record in releasing follow-up seasons for their shows? Are they still too new to judge? I'm just hoping they don't take forever to release Season 2 (man, how greedy do I sound!!!!). I know it's a ways off, but I hope it's fairly consistent with releases. Even if not, at least we're getting Season 1. A couple of months ago, it didn't look like that was a possibility.

YAYYYYYY!!!

Shout is one of the best companies for following through. They will be completing the five-season run of "That Girl" in May, which will have taken three years. They also are soon releasing Season 3 of "Father Knows Best" and it's only been about one year since Season 1 of that show. I think DW will sell well enough for them to keep up the pace. I just hope they don't cop out on us post-Delta fans. Seasons 6 and 7 are my favorites but I know I'm the minority and am not holding my breath.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that Shout! was responsible for the releases of "That Girl", a show I remember fondly but have not gotten around to buying just yet. Knowing that they're the company releasing it endears me more to that company. They're really great.

While Seasons 6-7 are NOT my favorites overall, there are still many decent episodes from that season, and I don't think Shout! will necessarily skip out on those. While many didn't take to Julia Duffy's character (Alison), many liked Judith Ivey's character (BJ Poteet), so eventually they should see release unless sales bomb on previous seasons or if *shudder*, Shout! goes out of business.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In any case, I don't think it's part of their plans to deliberately NOT release Seasons 6-7. In fact, perhaps they may even include the DW reunion that occurred on Lifetime a few years ago at the end of Season 7. They may count on that luring fans who feel Season 7 is lacklustre to buy the set. Who knows? Just don't give up the ghost just yet...

Take care,

Ed
