Sad It was 50 years ago today...

...that "the music died".

Yes, it does. In fact, I think I'll watch La Bamba tonight to mark the occasion.

You could make it a double feature and watch "The Buddy Holly Story" as well!

Music

I still have a newspaper clipping (from 1959) about that tragedy.

I don't have The Buddy Holly Story, though I have watched it before. I do own La Bamba.

Even though I am not a fan of any of them, this was still a great tragedy in the history of popular music. Buddy Holly especially had a great deal of influence on those who came after him.

Like the man in your avatar - Paul even bought the Buddy Holly catalog.

Such a sad day. I can't even begin to imagine how rock fans must have felt on this date 50 years ago. Not only losing Buddy, but also Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper... so unreal. I plan on watching The Buddy Holly Story tonight. Even though it's not entirely "accurate" it's still a very entertaining movie. I'll have to check out La Bamba one of these days. I think I saw it once about 20 years ago but I don't remember anything about it, I'm sorry to say.

Buddy may be gone, but his music "won't fade away"

I actually have autographs from "both" Donnas - the real Donna Ludwig Fox, who was Ritchie Valens' girlfriend and the inspiration for the song of the same name, and the actress who played her in La Bamba - Danielle Von Zerneck. I wish I had a scanner so I could display them here. In any case, here are pictures of the two ladies.

There is a great documentary from the mid 80's Paul McCartney put together called [I]The Real Buddy Holly Story[I] that features interviews with himself, Keith Richard, as well as Holly's family, band members, and other friends. If you can find it its well worth watching.

Wow it's been 50 years already. I've always loved rock 'n' roll from the '50s and these three were definately music pioneers. I have both La Bamba and The Buddy Holly Story in my video collection and they're both pretty good movies...very sad though.

I've heard of it, but I've never seen it. I'll have to check it out one of these days.
