I'm sure real Lucy fans must know this but I am quite surprised that I found out that the classic "heart opening" was made for syndication and was not original.

The original were animated cartoons.

I found that out myself only a couple of years ago. That's really something, isn't it?

I think most viewers who didn't watch the show in the 50s think that at first.

Yeah I had no ideal either untill I got the show on DVD.

I knew of it when I first began reading the reference books about Lucy. First saw one right after Lucy died, in a tribute VHS tape put out by Goodtimes. Love that we get to see some of them on the DVDs.
