Exclamation "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence confirms that the show will end this season

WILLIAMSBURG - "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence spoke at the College of William and Mary last night and told a crowd at his alma mater that the medical comedy series is ending after finishing its eighth season.

Lawrence said he and lead actor Zach Braff decided to leave, and that the "Scrubs" cast knew that would mean the end of the series. "Scrubs" recently moved from NBC to ABC, but Lawrence indicated that the move was not a factor in the decision to end the series.

The 1990 College of William & Mary graduate took an informal approach to his speech Thursday night, sitting on a stool dressed in jeans and a sweater and joking with the students about his fraternity days. He also showed a "Scrubs" montage of his favorite scenes and outtakes from the past eight seasons.

"If you think you can go hang out at your old fraternity, drink beers at 40 and be OK, you can't. I'm suffering today," he said as laughter rippled through the crowd.

For the second half of the two-hour talk, Lawrence took questions from students and shared some of the show's secrets, such as the fact that the janitor only spoke to J.D. in the first season because he was originally supposed to be a figment of J.D.'s imagination. Fans will also finally learn the janitor's name in the season finale.

"I can only tell you that it's an ordinary name, and I think it's funny," he said. "And the only clue I ever gave those insane fans was that his name is the same as the name of the janitor on 'Clone High,'" a short-lived animated series Lawrence created for MTV in 2002.

To end the talk, Lawrence handed out "Scrubs" collectibles, including scrubs used on the show, "Scrubs" chapstick, and several signed copies of the series finale script

Not that I'm a fan, but According to Jim is returning in June to air out the rest of its season along with a series finale. I dont know who told you it wasn't.

And regarding Scrubs, I agree; its great that a sitcom in this age is getting a proper finale, as it deserves!

As much as I like the show, I think it's past time to wrap it up. I haven't even watched yet this season.

I am glad it's getting a proper send-off. I just hope ABC doesn't air it opposite the AI finale.

I sort of expected this, but I'm glad fans of the show will have this last season plus a series ending goodbye!

Yeah, I think 8 seasons is enough to call it quits. I haven't watched the show either on ABC yet, but it's had a great run - it's time to end it. Good to see it's getting a proper series finale. That should do pretty well whenever it airs.

I'm not surprised the show is ending as it was supposed to last year. I think the only reason it's back this year is because it got interrupted by the strike and to end the show without closure would have sucked for everyone.
