It seemed that, in the day, a very high number of people who appreciated this series were also fans of "Gimme a Break!" One significant difference, however, is that this show lasted a full nine seasons and that one was a little bit shy of six. The last season was, more or less a joke in its own time and that is why it petered out before the official end of the broadcasting year. In any event, both of these shows were on the same network and dealt with, very much the same issues. However, this page is getting one post after another and that page is very slow! Go figure! Another thing that the two have in common is that several of the people who have been guests on one have also been guests on the other. Two good examples of this are Helen Hunt and Hazel Shermet. In any case, I have tried very hard to stimulate some conversation about that sereis and have had very little success! Would anyone here like to kick around some theories as to why this is?

did anyone from that show ever do anything after that?
i have never heard about any of them ever being on tv after that. except for the guy on blossom?certainly a large number of facts cast went on to do other things in entertainment. that is probably what keeps interest in the show alive all these years later. plus, it was a fun show.

You are probably correct that the stars of "Facts of Life" as a whole had much more significant roles than those of "Gimme a Break!" One possible exception is Nell Carter. She did various movies and stage productions and was even in another short lived sitcom. Kari Michaelson did a radio show for a while and then did a local talk show in California. Lauri Hendler had guest appearances in a bunch of different shows. If you would like to know more about her, you can go to her official site. Lara Jill Miller went on to become a lawer. She also did the voices for some animated characters. And, like you said, there is the guy from "Blossom"!

Because of how far down the page this thread has been pushed, I am bringing it to the top to give a new generation of viewers a chance to see what we were thinking a while back. I will have to agree that "Gimme a Break!" probably never had as much success as the "Facts of Life". This holds true both in first-run as well as syndication. However, the people who did frequent "Gimme a Break!" were of very much the same age group and the same social class as those of the "Facts of Life". Also two actresses who made guest appearances on both sereis were Helen Hunt and Hazel Shermet. There is also a guy who made one appearance on each show, but I do not remember his name. I can find it out if anyone is interested. In any event, since I was last here, I have posted all sorts of messages on that page and gotten very few responses! |
