Default How many people on this board would answer the phone if they saw an employer calling

if you are home? Say you are not working and sent out several resumes and one of the jobs call you for a interview. Do you

1. Pick up the phone and make it look like you were home all day waiting for the phone to ring?

OR

2.Let the Voicemail get it and call back the next day to look not as NEEDY?

I'm in transition right now and not working and someone told me I should answer the phone if a job calls-lol I leave my ringer off until 5pm and then check the caller id.

Pick up the phone, Solomon. You don't want to miss an opportunity.

Janice if they call at 9am to 12pm, I would return the call no later than 3pm.

If they call at 3pm and after, I would return the call at 9am the next morning

pick up the phone. it would be irrational of an employer to see you as "needy" for answering. not that there's no excuse for missing a call, but they're making the call with the intention of speaking with you right then. showing high interest in the job ("waiting by the phone all day") should be appealing to an employer, if anything.

ok whatever time they call I will return it in 2 hours as long as it's before 3pm. Now does that sound better?

I don't want to give off the impression that I NEED a joob and have no other options.

I would answer the phone, since you would not be the only person on their list of calls.

Key phrase "When I was at work," If you need a job, this isn't the time to screen calls.

Do you remember the ep of Fresh Prince when Carlton was waiting for a Call from a job and when they called he pretended to be someone? Well That's what I'm doing, I want to prepare myself mentally before I call a employer back just in case they want to interview me over the phone.

I want to give off a very good first impression with my professional sounded voicemail and then call in a hour and a half

Is this a potential employer or a 16 year-old girl? There's no need to play hard to get. They're calling you, because they NEED help. Answer the phone and make a good impression.

If they leave a message after they hear my voicemail they are interested. That means they are already impressed and I have to take it from there

Well, if I were in your shoes I would answer the phone. As an Employer, I hate playing phone tag with people, that can be frustrating.

You're out of work, but when some one calls you about a job, you won't immediately pick up the phone and talk to them? Now thats just plain stupid. Sounds to me like you like being unemployed. Answer that phone if you really wan't to work. If it were me, I'd answer it before it had a chance to ring a second time.
