Gelatinous goo!

I don't believe the 2 theories presented in this segment - that it was jellyfish or airline waste. Any other theories on what this might be? Even though people got sick and that's sad, it's funny to hear Farina talk about the "goo."

If it was airline waste, there would be a lot more incidents of gelatinous goo. than just this one.

In fact the biggest clue in this case is that there hasn;t been a similar episode to have occured now or in the past.

My two cents on this is that is some chemical or biological susbstance that was released in the air by accident and people have just been hushing up the incident due to embarassemnt, law suits and/or national security.

It may not even be military in origin. It may be just be a common commercial substance that was released accidently by a "homer simpson" type employee.

Yep... I agree mastermind.

As an airline employee, I can tell you it 99.9% wasn't airline waste. Not enough on any one plane to cause that much "goo" plus the waste on airline has a distinct color and odor. Enough on that.

I also believe it was an accidental chemical release/reaction that may likely have been non-military. Remember when they had that gas leak in India and all those people died back in the '80s? That kind of stuff happens more than people know. If a company was negligant in that way I'm sure they wouldn't want to jump right up and admit it.

And as Dennis Miller used to say, "Of course that's just my opinion... and I could be wrong."

I agree it were airline waster there would be more incidents all over the world. Your theory about a chemical or biological substance is pretty good. There are a lot of Homer Simpson type people working industries. My dad works as an HR manager for a mining company and he has told be stories about some of the dumb employees they have.

1. Probably bacteria that mixed with the substance when it was in the atmosphere.

2. I won;t rule out that it may be a biological weapon. I don;t believe that
it was released as part of a conspiracy though. It was probably accidental.

3. I'm no microbiologist, but i think there are quite a few mass productsitems that have eukaryotes f (sorry, i flunked bio in high school, watched too much UM on Lifetime, instead of studying!! So I'm sorry if i'm way off on this )

May be as simple as it falling from a plane or it being expelled via a Bhopal or Chernobyl type emission. Depending on the properties of the substance it probably mixed in with the atmosphere several times over and expelled as rain.

Think of the black rain that occured after the hiroshima explosion and what happens after volcanic erruptions. Ash-rain.

Imagine that what happened at Oakville as Hiroshima at very small level with a different substance errupting into the atmosphere than radioctive ash.

What if it was a dry material that was released into the clouds, but eventually mixed with the moisture in the clouds and fell to the ground miles from the initial release point?

Mastermind's mention of Ash Rain made me think of Mt. St. Helens. When it erupted in 1980 the ash eventually travelled all the way to Michigan in just about a week! We actually had a light coating of ash on our cars out here, almost all the way on the other side of the country, 2,000 miles away.

If that goo stuff could travel, you'd have to consider Canada, Mexico, and other states, besides the one where the goo landed, as possible sources of origin.

True. But that's assuming the resdidue rained on a populated area or on land. It's possible it did travel to Canada and fell in a forest or unpopulated mountain area. Maybe there are some stories of dead animals like deer that appeared to die for no reason?

It could also have rained at sea in that case no one would have noticed.

Most of the residue could also have simply been absorbed in the atmosphore. where it evaporated.

That is very true! Oakville area may not even be the source of the substance. It could have been put into the atmosphere miles away from Oakville.

Another idea idea to consider is a hurricane or tornado that may have hit a chemical plant somewhere and took the substance into the atmosphere.

I could have sworn that on Ripley's Believe It Or Not, (or some similar program) several years ago, they said that that it once rained frogs in the UK.

So of course, everyone was thinking it was a hoax because frogs are kind of heavy to be raining down out of the sky. But then they explained that a storm with heavy winds or a funnel cloud kind of thing had picked up small frogs and carried them up in the air, then dropped them back down one town over or something like that.

Anyone remember hearing this?

There was also an incident of raining fish that happened somewhere and they believe that it was a case of a wind funnel as well.

Well, could be that this is another possibility in the "mysterious gelatinous goo" problem. Maybe a storm picked up and carried this stuff from wherever it was being stored, used, or experimented with, and dropped it in this location.

I haven't seen this eppy since it was on lifetime, so it's been a few years. Did the goo rain down several times in the same city or different locations? I wonder what the weather patterns and normal wind directions would be...

Did the goo rain down by itself, or did it only come down with a regular rain shower? (Sorry, I know, lots of questions that could easily be answered if spike wasn't withoholding on the Unsolved eppies.)

That episode was on the other day. I believe it rained down on the same town several times. It wasn't with a regular rain shower, either. The locals thought it was rain until it started sticking to their windows and stuff.

on a side note...gelatinous goo is now the phrase we use in our house to describe any suspicious substance...like the random generic cheese dip I recently picked up to test for our super bowl festivities...
