Bobby Fuller Musician death? Ever solved?? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Did you guys see the segment a few days ago on Bobby Fuller, the up and coming musician in the 1960s who was compared to Elvis?

He was found dead in the car by his mother at his home. I think he still lived with his mother which is kind of hard to believe since he was a big star for that time.

Was there every any resolution to this case?

This website says that Bobby was found dead outside his own apartment in California, and that his mother was visiting from El Paso, TX.

My mother remembers having heard about his death back then, and even in this day and age when I ask her questions about it, her answers reflect confusion because it's such a mystery.

Well, they called it suicide at the time but, most people wouldnt likely kill themselves that way.....it was also well known that he was fooling around with a mobster's GF

They had an update when this aired and they found that GF but she said she had no connection to the mob in any way. I think she also said she was not with Bobby the night he died.

This is a very bizarre case.

I don't know if they actually explained that properly on UM but they DID say that a witness saw the POLICE throw away a gas can at the scene and then the policeman said something like "another useless rock star is dead" or something to that effect.

That is just AWFUL how police could be so uncaring like that!! I'm surprised Fuller's family didn't take action against the police for such horrible handling of the case.

It's very obvious that gas can could've been a clue but more importantly they just didn't seem to care about solving the case!

How insane for the cops to throw the can of gas away when the whole inside of the car stunk of gas, Bobby was so covered in the gas smell that it was noted in the coroner's(?) report, and that gas can very well could have fingerprints or some other valuable evidence on it.

The cops must have just took one look at him and immediately assumed that he committed suicide without even bothering to investigate.

Nowadays, competent investigations are done with the assumption that an unexplained death such as that could be a murder, so evidence is collected and examined, and everything is properly gone over until the actual cause of death can be determined.

I wonder if competent investigations back then were done the same way and Bobby's was just an incompetent investigation, or if the officials just had a totally different way of investigating things back then. Like, if the situation looked like a suicide, they just assumed it was, and that was that. The end. You know?

And the official's treatment of his death reminds me of Leroy Drieth's case. He was also found dead, alone in his car. It looked like a car accident and the cops just left it at that. It was never properly investigated. (Until about 25 years later, when it was found to be murder.)

Leroy's mom had a feeling that there was more to it than just the car accident, and kept bugging officials to look into it, but they brushed her off and said that she was just a grieving mother and that she needed to "go home and get over it".

This was just a few years after Bobby Fuller's death. I bet if his mother would have complained, she would have gotten the same treatment. Complaining women were dismissed or considered hysterical back in those days. Men (who were the cops and coroners) didn't take women seriously at all.

Well how would deal with ANYONE who is suspected of being involved with the mob? You can only ask and unless you have some leverage to charge them with crime that's all you can do.

Just to spin it another way - if she was involved with the mob and had something to do with Bobby's death, why bother calling in at all? At the time the original show aired, the identity of the mysterious girlfriend was not known. She could have just as easily stayed buried. Yet she comes forward to presumably set the record straight and opens herself and her claims up for scrutiny.

I remember watching this when it first aired and then the subsequent update that came a week or so later and a part of me believed it. I mean, how many times has UM gotten details blatantly wrong or devoted time to building a theory and then it turns out to be nothing but smoke and mirrors?

The mysterious unidentified girlfriend with mob connections angle makes the case that much more interesting and mysterious, when the reality was a lot more mundane.

I don't mean to imply that I believe Bobby Fuller committed suicide. I don't know if he did, and it's been a while since I last saw the segment, so I can't say with any certainty. I just think the explanation for the girlfriend's involvement or lack thereof isn't all that far fetched if you really think about it.

Justin, I agree that the girlfriend was probably sincere because as you said she CHOSE to reveal herself and if she had something to hide she would've never contacted UM at all.

I just don't think Bobby offed himself because he had the world at his feet. They mentioned he was using drugs at a party that night or something so maybe his death was connected to drugs.
