How totally random. "Right down the Line" is one of my favorite songs.

The only actual "news" article I could find about it was the one they linked to on Wikipedia from a Scottish outlet. Although I haven't done a Lexis-Nexis search or anything, that seems a little bizzare. Even the article above just sort of mentions the disappearance in passing.

I'm sorry to hear that he's had such a rough battle with alcoholism. Maybe it's not bigger news because people figured his days were numbered anyway? It sounds terrible, but it might be true. It's not like the guy is Paul McCartney, but he's had some pretty big hits.

ETA: To be safe, I also checked Snopes due to the lack of actual news coverage on this. I didn't find any entries.

This seems to be well-known among bloggers but no one else seems to care. Thanks for bringing it up.

Here's another site that talks about this. A couple of commenters claim he's o.k., but who knows? http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/...l_missing.html

Agreed, You can't always trust Wikipedia. I didn't know about Adam West but last month someone reported that John Larroquette had died in a boating accident. That entry was submitted and removed at least 6 times.

Wikipedia? Anyone can add info on there and in many instances the info is inaccurate. But the name didn't ring a bell until I saw the title, "Baker Street". If he is in fact missing then I hope he'll be found safe and sound.

Screw the blogs, there's an actual news source on this now, but the article is saying that the internet rumors are just that. Here's the article from The Guardian. He's in hiding being cared for by a friend, according to the author.

Default 'Missing' singer Rafferty is fine

Singer Gerry Rafferty has issued a statement to say he is "extremely well" at his house in Tuscany despite rumours that he had gone missing.

It was reported this week that worried friends of the musician thought he had disappeared after he was hospitalised six months ago for liver failure.

In a solicitors' statement, Rafferty said he was still composing and hoped to release an album this year.

The Baker Street singer offered "a personal thank you" to concerned fans.

The Scottish singer and his band Stealers Wheel had a hit in 1972 with Stuck in the Middle with You, a song which became popular again when it was used the film Reservoir Dogs.

Bogus sightings

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Rafferty's Stealers Wheel band mate Tony Williams had contacted police about the singer.

He and Rafferty's family had not heard from the singer in over six months after his departure from St Thomas' Hospital London in August 2008.

Rumours circulated on the internet with Rafferty sightings reported in a Bournemouth bed and breakfast and a central London restaurant.

However, Rafferty said he had been at his Tuscan home, just north of Florence, for the last six months.

Hearing of the statement, Williams said: "I'm delighted he's fine."

Rafferty started out as a busker on the London underground and his biggest hit, Baker Street, was based on his experiences there.

The song is still in constant rotation on soft rock music stations around the world, earning Rafferty thousands in royalties.
