Talk about drama queen time! Such overacting and whining!! Betty has never been more annoying in this episode--all of a sudden she thinks she is a nobody and needs to get away from Springfield to find who she is. What she really needed was a good ole fashion kick in the pants!
I wonder if Elenor Donahue cringed at this episode--it's really horrid IMO. I did laugh at Kathy's imitation of Betty's "oh my life is not worth living" dramatic speeches.

Betty finally learned she had it good at home. Kathy was quite dickens wasn't she sort of bratty but likeable.

Yes, Betty was definitely the drama queen in this one. I never cared for this episode either because of her whining. She never knew how good she had it. I know she must really cringe at this now if not while making it.

It's episodes like this one is why I'm not really a Father Knows Best fan. The show tends to go over the top with the dramatic stuff, then there are those sappy moments as well and Robert Young is a little too preachy for my taste as a father figure. I've always preferred Leave It To Beaver as the ideal family sitcom from this era. I think they balanced it just about right with that show, emphasis on the comedy, light with the drama and not letting it go over the top. Ward Cleaver is the ideal TV dad.

I freakin' love this episode! I definately had moments of apathy when I was teenager.

and see, I feel the opposite. I like Beaver, but not enough to want to own it. I personally think Billy Gray's performance as Bud, makes him one of the better child actors from the era. I certainly prefer him to Wally. |

I'm liking Bud more than Wally, he seems more real in the way that he has to put up with two sisters that get on his nerves.

I once read a quote from Billy Gray, apparently he doesn't have a positive opinion about Father Knows Best. I can understand why he would feel that way.
In an early episode of Emergency!, Tony Dow plays a full bearded young man in his late 20's who injures himself while crashing his motorcycle. As the paramedics are taking him in for treatment, they are talking to him and he acts suspiciously. As it turns out, he was looting houses in the area and stealing a bunch of stuff, so they turned him over to the cops. Shame on you, Wally. And you were always such a nice, polite boy on Leave It To Beaver. I am shocked with this repulsive behavior.

Billy is apparently more at peace with his FKB past now....both Elenor and Lauren reflected positively in the latest DVD interviews. no, he hasn't expressed interest in doing an interview or commentaries, but Billy is entitled to how he feels.
FTR, I never knew he invented that F-1 (or whatever its called) guitar pick! |
