Default Lets face it, the new UM isn't scary

To me this is the essential element of the original UM, that made the show for me. I am sure there were a number of reasons why some of you loved UM. Maybe some of you are junior sleuths and budding detectives. Maybe some of you wanted to hopefully provide a family the clues to find their missing son or daughter.

But lets be honest, alot of you, myself included watched for the same reason we go to horror movies or go on roller coasters or go bungy jumping. we loved to be scared.

I watched a few minutes of the new UM, and could tell the missing ingredient was gone.

It was Robert Stacks eerie voice that played a huge role in the show. And additionally, how they presented the stories, the reenactments, the photos, the music. All were why the show scared the hell out of me as a kid, and still has the power to scare me as a 24 year old.

I wonder why the producers of this new incarnation failed to consider all these things

They were just looking for a quick buck, not to actually solve cases

Because they made the mistake of thinking they had to "modernize" the show, to make it more hip for the present decade.

I think they failed to take into consideration that a good majority of viewers who would be tuning into UM, are viewers who watched the show all those years ago. Viewers that would be looking for a little nostalgia with the show they love and remember.

I wish that they'd never messed with it. Don't fix what isn't broken, Spike TV!

Nothing can match the original Unsolved Mysteries with Stack; the current version is still much better than a lot of the shows on TV today, I'd say. Forensic Files is decent. It's like Michael Jordan's comeback with Washington - sure, the original magic isn't there anymore, but given that it can't be replaced, perhaps we should contextualize and appreciate what we've got

They try too hard for the new UM.
But at least it is something, and we are getting updated on cases!!!

There needs to be new cases because they can only show these old re-runs so many times.

I never thought the old UM was scary. I just enjoy the stories. I prefer the old show, but I also like this new version.

The new UM doesn't have the scary element to it. But I do like some of the updates and I agree I wish there were new cases.

I agree that it got too modern. The cuts just don't allow for any tension. The old footage was grainy, and it just added to it. They had the philosophy that if it scared the ever living crap out of you, you would remember the composite or photo of the suspect/guilty party.

I feel what's missing most is the element of a complete story. I think the new UM glazes over cases too fast, and leaves out lots of important details like dates, etc. whereas we got a more complete version of the cases on the old UM.
Plus, there really wasn't any need to add in those special effects. It takes away from the case.
But, I'm still grateful we have something. It's just inevitable to compare the old to the new when you've had something you've loved and were so used to for so long.

I agree, not as scary. At the same time, I'm a lot older than when I first viewed most of the episodes and I'm more jaded by all the other crime shows on in the last 10 years.

I always did like the element of the ghost stories where UM would get the hair raised up on the back of your neck!
