Remember when you went to old stadiums/arenas that aren't around anymore? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Many of us have attended games at sporting venues that aren't around anymore, and a lot of us still remember those days.

For instance:

I've been to the Aud many times when I've lived in Buffalo

Wrecky and Iggles made lord knows how many trips to the Spectrum and Veterans Stadium

Ramona's probably visited the old Kingdome

Garfield can remember going to RFK Stadium

I ask this:

1. How do you remember going to those old places?

2. Any great memories of those old places?

3. Do you prefer the team's new digs or do you want to go back to the old days?

Sorry, FSU. I never went to RFK Stadium. I may be a Redskin fan, but I don't live in the DC area and I never been there.

I remember going to old Cleveland Munincipal Stadium to see an Indians game with the youth group...and we all went back there in 1994 when the Billy Graham Crusade was in town.

Ive been to the old Aud myself....terrible place to watch a hockey game; the sightlines were awful because of the low roof and that horn could give you earbleed!(But, at least it was affordfable compared to the new place)

In the early 90s, I made a pilgrimage to see the old Montreal Forum before it closed forever (As it turns out, they turned it into a hockey-themed mall). It was amazing to see those shiny red seats and the ice surface where i watched my team play so many games on TV; the coolest thing was seeing how the old roofline from the 20s was still there, suspended from cables (in the late 60s they raised the roof, added 10000 seats and built a new roof and walls over it) There are hockey arenas all over Canada, but, there was only one Forum!

I do remember going to Jack Murphy Stadium-Qualcomm for Padre games before the Padres moved.

Heck, the Chargers don't have a new stadium but I haven't gone to the Charger game in a long time...

And then there was the old Ex in Toronto, where the Jays played before the ugly Skydome was built....most people hated the EX ,but I loved Exibition Stadium.....I guess it wasnt THAT bad a spot for a stadium after all; because thats where Toronto built the new soccer stadium a couple years ago, where the Ex had stood for 100 years!!!!

I got to go to Ebbets Field once in Brooklyn when I was a really little kid. I was in second or third grade. All I remember was that it was an afternoon double-header with the St. Louis Cardinals. We sat in the Mezzanine section, and the paid attendance that day was very, very low. We practically had the place to ourselves. The reason we went there was that our cousins came in for a visit from California and wanted to go to a Brooklyn Dodger game. It was, by the way, the last year the Dodgers were in Brooklyn before relocating to Los Angeles.

I don't even remember who won the games. (I was only like seven or eight years old) and don't remember all that much.

Qualcomm. They got the rights to the stadium in '97. They call it 'The Q' sometimes.

Should have kept it as Jack Murphy cause it was cool calling it, 'The Murph'.

(The forum as it was built, and the rebuild of the late 60s*) *Those towers were actually holding up the old roofline from cables connected to them

When I was young I used to go to Cincinnati Reds games at Riverfront Stadium several times per year. The Reds "sold out" and renamed Riverfront Cinergy Field in 1996. They moved to their new stadium in like 2003. The last time I attended a Reds home game was 1995. I don't plan on attending games in the future, even if they gave me free tickets. (I've heard that a hot dog doesn't cost $1 anymore!

I went to see an Acquire the Fire concert in Detroit since we had friends over there and we went to the Pontiac Silverdome. It was a tad cold there, but it was an interesting place to be.
