Default Have VHS Officially Been Discontinued?

I know this might be a ridiculous question; but what is up with VHS today? Have they officially stopped making films for VHS? If so, when?

In my travels to Curcuit City I see a rack of blank VHS for sale so I see that tapes are still on the market.

Yes, I recall reading somewhere that VHS has been (or is being) phased out.
However, you can still buy blank tapes at Wal-Mart and other retail stores.
And, of course, you can often find pre-recorded videos at dollar stores,
flea markets, on eBay, etc. But DVD has pretty much replaced it, as far as
new products are concerned ... and it's only a matter of time before Blu-Ray
replaces DVD (or so I hear). That's progress for ya!

I think VHS blank tapes are being sold because there is still a small niche for people using them to tape the things from TV. I really don't see VHS movies in stores anymore.

There was one major distributor who still sold VHS movies to stores, but he made his final shipment last year and is out of the business. No major movies have been printed on VHS for more than three years. You can still find blank cassettes, though and they probably will not be discontinued because they still have us in some audio/visual work.

Blank VHS Tapes will always be available because people want to use them to tape from television - remember, an awful lot of people bought DVD-VCR Combos because they didn't want to see their entire beloved Cassette tape collection go to waste. . .

Yes, the only VHS tapes I see these days are blank ones. Mainly I see the blank tapes at Target.

When I worked for Blockhead Video, we were told in January 2006, that we would no longer get new releases on VHS. By January 2008, we removed all VHS from rental and sold off the inventory for 99 cents each.
