Default Wicca

What are people's thoughts on the Wicca religion? Is anyone here a Wiccan?

I have a lot of respect for the Wiccan religion. My boyfriend used to be a Wiccan; he's now a spiritualist and he's also a medium, which means he can communicate with spirits. We had to put one of our cats to sleep on Christmas Eve and that very night my boyfriend got a message from the cat.

Anyhow, for those who are not familiar with Wicca, it's basically a modern pagan religion (formally established sometime in the 1950s, I believe) which does draw on some aspects of pre-Christian pagan religions, although it is not derived entirely from them.

People sometimes accuse Wiccans of being Devil-worshippers, but that is not the case. Most Wiccans do not believe in Satan at all and most of them are most certainly not evil. They worship a God figure and a Goddess figure and Wicca is fairly nature-based. They often use healing and a lot do make use of spells. My boyfriend still has his wand and spellbooks at home; in fact, he cast a protection spell on me during the summer (before we were going out.)

In general, Wicca is a very open religion, and although I do not plan to enter into it myself, I respect it a great deal. I am a New Age Christian so I have a few beliefs in common with Wiccans - I believe in Jesus Christ and his message of love but I am very much a New Ager. I believe it is all right to communicate with spirits and would like to learn how to do this myself. I believe in the power of positive thinking and affirmation and that we create our own realities. I believe in astral projection, etc, etc. I'm really glad that I found the New Age spiritual system, it's opened me to a lot of stuff.

I have a general interest in all religions and great respect for all of them. And Wicca is something that I find interesting and that I admire.

Not wanting to get into a debate or meaning to put you down but I find Wicca to be BS.

Until I see some genuine evidence of any form of "spirit communications" I will remain with what I think.

Well, Wicca isn't just about spirit communication, there's a lot more to it than that, but you probably already know that.

My boyfriend is a medium, though - do you think that he's lying about it or do you think he's imagining it?

Even though you think it's crazy, I would stress that Wicca is quite open-minded.

Listen, you and your boyfriend have the right to say/believe in whatever you want. Not ever having met you or your boyfriend I cannot have much of say when it comes to what he is or isn't lying about. That's for you.

But I will say this, I have the right to think that other people's belief's are ridiculous and from my knowledge on "spirit communications" and mediums what not; it is all crap. If it were true it'd be all over the news.

I think if everyone really wanted to we could all hear voices in our head from our deceased relatives/pets; I've done it before. Does that make me a "medium"? No.

And yes, I am familiar with Wicca and those Neo-Paganism religions.

I have no problem with it, people can practice anything belief or religion they want, as long as they don't hurt others.

I believe in "spiritual communication" in and of itself. We know very little about the human brain and we also use only a very small percentage of our brains. That being the case, I do believe that such things as ESP are certainly possible. However, for someone to have this ability they would have to have access to a part of the brain that the rest of us don't, which I truly believe that some people do. However, I do not believe that everyone can simply summon such paranormal abilties at will, these are abilities that only certain people have. So though I do believe in paranormal ability I do not really believe in New Age religions. Someone simply can't say that they are going to talk to someone in the spirit world and then it just happens. This being said, I respect everyone's religious beliefs as long as they don't impose their beliefs on others.

That's exactly how I feel. I find it to be annoying when people are pushy about their beliefs.

So do I. It's your life - practice whatever you want as long as you're not pushy about it.

I think it's interesting. I'm Catholic, but unlike some other Christian denominations, I believe everybody should be free to practice what they want and I have no desire to convert other people to my religion.

Ditto.

I hate the idea of forcing people to do certain things.

We live in an era of choice.

I also hate the whole idea of fundagelical Christians who feel like they have to intimidate or act condescending toward others simply because this is the only way to "witness" and proselytize, to "get people saved". "If we don't do it like this, people will burn in hell!"

I thought the whole idea was to offer something that would improve a person's life, not give them "fire insurance".

I know someone on the internet who's a Wiccan and I don't believe it.

Known fact-Wiccan can be seen on Captain Planet. The five rings represent the five points Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Spirit (In the cartoon, it's 'Heart').

Thank you for saying that. The reason I asked you was because I just don't want people to think or me or my boyfriend as being liars, even if they think our belief in this stuff is ridiculous. Although it's not pleasant when people think I'm weird, I think I'd rather have people believe I'm weird for being into spiritualism and the New Age, instead of lying about it.

I didn't say you didn't. Of course you do. A lot of my people either think my beliefs are ridiculous or weird. The only time I get angry is if people are rude or nasty to me because of them, OR, they accuse me of friends of mine who are involved of this, of lying and making everything up.

I myself have not communicated with any spirits, although I would like to. But my boyfriend has and he wouldn't lie about that. It's fine for people to think that his beliefs are silly - just as long as no one accuses him of being a liar.

I don't know if it fully makes you a medium, but I do think it's possible that you might have heard from your deceased relatives or pets. You probably believe it was all in your head/imagination, but I do believe it's possible that you've actually heard them, that they're communicating with you from the spirit world.
