Quite a few years back (I believe between 2000 and 2002, at the very latest 2004), I saw an episode of a show that seemed to revolve around an African American father raising his teenage daughter, and I think another main character was the father's best friend. That's all I know about the show but I was wondering the name of it.
I'm not trying to track it down or anything, I was just curious. I like finding out these things. |

Sounds like you are talking about Raising Dad except for the African-American part.

I believe the show your referring to is "One On One". It aired on the WB from 2001 to 2006.

This show use to air ad nauseum on The N and now runs on BET, I think. Pretty horrible show starring the rather obnoxious Kyla Pratt.

UPN tended to air more Urban based (African-American) sitcoms than the WB, which dropped that type of programming pretty quickly and very quickly started airing hour-long dramas aimed at teenage girls. The first hit series the network (WB) had was "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" with Sarah Michelle Geller which became a critical darling and an internet obsession; it premiered in 1997 and helped the network get some much needed attention, next the network hit gold with "Dawson's Creek" and "Felicity" in 1998 both of which helped to define the generation of kids that watched them, also "7th Heaven" became a solid hit in the 1997-1998 season after having a slow start in 1996. The WB network was at the time very distinctive from other networks, it's promos, it's shows, it's style was very different and had a young, fresh feel to it. The UPN network always seemed desperate for a hit and tried way to hard to attract viewers, oftentimes verging on the obscene with shows that were in poor taste and didnt' do much to lure viewers, examples of this are "The Secret Diary Of Desmond Phiffer" a show SITCOM ABOUT SLAVERY and the horrid show "home-boys from outter space". By the time the networks mereged, The WB network had carved out a very definet style all it's own, whereas UPN was still struggling to find it's audience with only a few hits to it's name. So now you can understand how different the two networks really were. |

^ I remember when The Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer was on because Jay Leno ragged on it every night.
Never watched it myself. I always thought Homeboys In Outer Space aired on the WB, but I digress.
