Default George was such a weirdo in "The Contest"

why in the world did he feel the need to tell his friends that his mom caught him masturbating?

I mean who says that to friends unless they belong in a mental institution?-lol

I guess he might not have said anything, except he had to explain why his mother wound up in the hospital... it would have come out sooner or later.

Lol

They were all so close they talked about everything. Even whe Kramer told them he was constipated. The whole 'sponge worthy' thing. All that is very private stuff but they were very very close friends.

It was just a weird storyline for a character who was over 30

Well, geez, his mother treated him like he was ten and he acted like one, too.

When you really think about it all four main characters on this show were weirdos. (not there's anything wrong with that!)

Don't forget Newman...and George's parents...and Puddy...they were ALL weirdos!! (Except for maybe Jerry's parents...they were probably the most normal characters!)

All that weirdness was good for viewers because it most likely caused them to think "Geez, even MY life isn't as bad as theirs!". That's true, though. All four of them were pretty close, and told each other almost everything. And George wouldn't have been able to keep his mother's hospitalization a secret for long. Not with Kramer around!
