Shows You Hadn't Seen in a While Until They Came to DVD

Okay, so this thread is curiously similar to the other thread about shows you hadn't seen in ten years or more.

I wanted to list a show and realized I had seen it because of my DVD purchase. This isn't a ten years thing. The amount of time from when you last saw the show before getting the DVD can be any amount of time you consider to be a long time.

So, here's my list...

Saved by the Bell: The New Class - It ended it's run in 2000. They didn't show reruns (at least on *my* TV set), so I hadn't seen the episodes again until the DVD releases throughout the year of 2005. And it was great to revisit this series.

Ellen - I loved the reruns on Lifetime beginning in the fall of 1998. But by 2001, the reruns had stopped. I missed the show, but there was no place for me to watch it. That is until the DVDs started coming out in 2004 (and ending in 2006).

The Odd Couple - I was a huge fan of this show when it aired on N@N and later TV Land. But when it left TV Land, I couldn't find it anywhere and I was sad. Luckily, the DVDs came out. While they're not all perfect sets (edits), it's better than nothing.

One Day at a Time - While it's only the first season available, it's still the first time I've seen the show since E! reran it back in the 1990s.

I haven't seen most of the shows I now have on dvd since they originally ran. Like Man From UNCLE. Haven't seen it since the 60s. Its like seeing brand new eps, since I do not remeber the plots of most eps. That Girl, Family Affair, Family Ties, Magnum, etc etc have not been seen since they originally ran.

Smart Guy - Was gone off US television syndication for 4 years. Glad to see it again.

7th Heaven - I've always watched it and never missed it in primetime in eleven years. But it wasn't until I got the dvd's that I was able to go back and really rewatch the early years (seasons 1-3).

California Dreams - I've been watching on YouTUBE for the past week. Can't wait for the dvd!

Happy Days, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts Of Life, Gimme A Break, 227, Full House, The Brady Bunch, The Monkees. The reason for buying these shows was because they aren't airing in syndication where I live.

Father Knows Best, The Donna Reed Show, Bewitched, That Girl The Flying Nun, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Petticoat Junction. I was very excited when these came on dvd since they weren't being shown where I live.

I don't think that I had seen that much of "Hawaii Five-O" prior to getting the first season's worth of it on DVD. Since then, I have gotten the remaining four releases, and the series hasn't lost that much of its luster. By the way, I forgot to say that the last one was purchased by me as an early Christmas present.

No, I take that back. I had seen a couple episodes on TV LAND.

Batman The Animated Series - Before DVD, I hadn't seen the show since the early 2000's, when Cartoon Network had it (though I did watch once or twice on Boomerang a few years later). The DVD's brought back so many memories, especially since this has been one of my absolute favorite shows for most of my life. I've been a huge fan since I was four years old, and it still remains at the top of my list.

Batman Beyond - I hadn't seen the show for a long time, and it was a real treat to go back and relive the series on DVD years after it ended.

Beverly Hills 90210 - I just recently started watching the show on DVD from the very beginning. I haven't seen these early episodes since the mid-late '90s.

ER - I always watched the reruns of the first few seasons on local stations and on TNT in the early 2000's (then again on TNT in early 2005). Two years went by before I would watch the show from the pilot episode through whatever season they were up to on DVD.

The Facts of Life - Before the DVD releases of seasons 1-3 in 2007, I hadn't seen The Facts of Life since it was on Nick@Nite in 2001.

Family Ties - Before the season 1 DVD release a few years ago, I hadn't seen Family Ties since it was on Nick@Nite in 2003, and then on TVLand in early 2005.

Firefly - I saw a few episodes during it's original run on FOX back in 2002, then a few years later on the SciFi channel. It wasn't until DVD that I really experienced the show.

Freaks and Geeks - Like Firefly, I watched a little bit of the show when it was originally on (NBC, 1999-2000), then again in syndication on the Fox Family channel in 2001. But it wasn't until I watched it on DVD in 2004 that I really experienced this great series.

I Love Lucy - I hadn't really watched the show since I was a kid. I recently started watching season one on DVD. It's been fun.

Laverne & Shirley - Before DVD, the last time I watched Laverne & Shirley was on Lifetime, in 2004.

My So-Called Life - I remember watching the show in reruns on MTV in the '90s. Then I watched it when it first came to The-N 5 or 6 years ago. SHOUT! Factory reissued the series on DVD at the end of 2007. It was great to rewatch and actually understand the show that I enjoyed so much as a kid.

Popular - I watched the show on The WB in the late '90s/early '00s. I revisited the first season of the show during Christmas vacation in 2004 (and watched season two in early 2005). It was great. And again, since I was older, I actually "got" the show.

Roswell - Before I revisited the show on DVD in early 2005, I hadn't watched it since 2001.

Saved By The Bell: The New Class - Like Adam, I hadn't seen the show since it was on NBC in the late '90s/early '00s. I watched the show on DVD in 2006/2007.

Superfriends - Before watching a few episodes in 2008, I hadn't seen the show since the mid-late '90s. The show is a little dated, but it's still a lot of fun, and a true DC Comics classic.

Superman The Animated Series - Before the DVD's came out in 2005 or so, I hadn't seen the show since Cartoon Network had the rights to it in the early 2000's.

One more that I don't recall seeing that much of prior to my purchase of its DVD releases is "CHiPs." I've purchased both of its current releases, and so far, it's been a pretty good series. I can't wait for #3 of that one.

Renegade- I don't rember the reuins. i rember parts of the show.

Sliders i rember watching them on scif channel

super mario brother super show. i only rember watching parts ofthe show. i like the live action mario brothers. i rember watching it when i was A BOY.

TEEANGE MUTANT NINJA TURTES. me and my brother used to be big ninja turtlers fans. we would watch the tv show everytimes. we even have the action figuers. we even dress up as ninja turtles for halloween.


Spider-man the aminted sersie i rember coming home from school and watching it. then they started airing it on abc family for a while.

F-Troop i rember being in hostpail one day and saw they hadf-troop on nick at nite. i never really watch the show.

alf i used to watch this show a lot. i used to have talking alf doll.

There are a number of old TV shows I am curious about, some of which are available on DVD. But I think if I purchase these I will end up watching a few episodes to satisfy my curiosity, find that I don't enjoy the show all that much and put the box back on the shelf and then it will sit there. So rather than waste the money I try to stick with favorite shows that I know I like, and buy those DVD's.

Oh my, there are quite a few of them. I could end up spending a lot of money if I bought every show I was curious about. One show that comes to mind is Sargeant Preston Of The Yukon. One nice thing is sometimes you can find episodes of some shows on you tube and you can watch them for free. There's an episode of Sgt. Preston on there, it's OK but didn't overwhelm me. The show sort of reminds me of Adventures Of Superman with the storylines and acting, but in a Yukon setting.

Mr. Peepers is another show I'm curious about. I've never seen that one. I thought about getting The Donna Reed Show season one, but the show is not really to my liking. McHale's Navy is another show I thought about getting, but again the show is not really to my liking so why spend the money? Rhoda season one will be out in a few months. The Mary Tyler Moore Show complete series is supposed to be coming out also. Bob Newhart Show is another one, the first four seasons are out. But most likely I will pass on all of these, I might decide to get Rhoda when that one comes out but I'll have to think it over. There is a movement underway to bring I'm Dickens, He's Fenster to DVD. That one I will most likely buy if it comes out and it's done right. And if The Lucy Show season one comes out, I'll probably get that one too.
