Rock n Roll in the glory days sense is dead. But there are FEW and far between decent bands out there in a pop/rap dominated industry. Who would you put up there?
2000's bands Avenged Sevenfold... probably my favorite of the current bands. They have an older sound to them, yet something so totally new and awesome. It's like Maiden meets GnR. Wicked guitarist too. Muse... another band that is just fantastic. Not as popular in America as they are in the UK, but they'll be there eventually. Really unique band, and I haven't heard a song from them that I didn't like. White Stripes... admittedly, at first I thought they were just another garage band indie rock outfit... but they've really solidified themselves with the last album "Icky Thump." I'm a fan. Coheed & Cambria... a lot of people disagree with me here, but I adore Claudio Sanchez's unique voice, and I think the musicianship is off the charts. Plus the whole concept of the band is brilliant. Very dark and twisted lyrics. Bands Left Over from the 90's Weezer... Every few years, they drop another gem that sends me into geek frenzy. They give me hope in the industry. FTW. Foo Fighters... like Weezer, they've remained consistent for me. Dave Grohl is just covered in awesome, and I totally man-crush on him. Red Hot Chilli Peppers... while their work becomes more and more of a rarity, it's still up to par when it's released. Not to mention the fact that they've remained relevant to a whole different generation. Radiohead... While I disliked a lot of their more experimental work in the 00's (i.e. Kid A, Hail to the Thief, etc.) In Rainbows was nothing short of stellar, and really marked a comeback for one of the most different bands of all time. That's just a few random examples. There are other bands that I feel have produced a decent album... but nothing further. Those are the ones that remain a constant in my playlist. Just trying to see if people agree with me that amongst all the awful winy tunes from Fall Out Boy, and all the repetitive radio rock of Nickelback... there is still some decent rock music out there. |

I forgot to mention Incubus as one of the bands to stay over from the 90's. Good call.

I don't listen to too many current bands.
The two that I have gotten into the last decade are The Jayhawks and Wilco. The Jayhawks started out with a folksy/country sound, but they turned more to rock after a few lineup changes. |

Incubus released their first album in 1999 so I wouldn't really classify them as a band from the 90's. But I guess technically they are. |

most of the rock bands i like that are still around came from the 80's and 90's. i can't really think of many that came out in this decade other than avenged sevenfold and evanescence.

most of the rock from this decade is terrible honestly. i like classic rock a lot, but most of the stuff from this decade is generic and all sounds the same to me. thats why its not the dominant type of music anymore.

I also lean toward classic rock myself, not too much that is current, although I do like Nickleback, 3 Doors Down and Coldplay, as well as christian artists Hawk Nelson, Skillet, Mercy Me and Casting Crowns.
