Most of you know about our sainted Governor Blagojevich here in Illinois.
Its probably not going to hold up but he did "appoint" a Senator earlier this week to fill Barack Obama's seat. The man he appointed was Roland Burris, the Attorney General at the time who decided to seek the death penalty for Rolando Cruz in Jeanine Nicarico's murder despite objections from many. Of course Cruz was later found to not be the murderer after many years in prison. Apparently the new appointee is getting some heat again for his decision in the Cruz case.http://www.propublica.org/article/in...ocent-man-1231 |

Hey CD, yeah I know about Burris. I'm not a fan of him for many reasons. His own assistant attorney general came to believe that Cruz was innocent and begged Burris not to re-try Cruz in 90/91 but Burris had future political aspirations and didnt want to let a 'child killer' off the hook for fear it would hurt those ambitions. Just one problem, Cruz was not the killer and the Illinois Attorney General's office and local police in DuPage County, Illinois had information that proved Cruz's innocence and refused to release it. Of course not surprisingly the cops and prosecutors from DuPage County that were later charged with wrongdoing were all acquitted. Great system we have. It seems Brian Dugan will finally be tried this year and it also seems the NeCarico family has finally accepted that Dugan is their daughters killer not Rolando Cruz. For several years after Cruz's exoneration they continued to believe he (Cruz) was the killer.

Wow, Crystaldawn. Thanks so much for posting that. I totally missed that connection. People are saying positive things about Burris, but you have to wonder about someone who would accept an appointment from Blago - a man who, while he may or may not be guilty of a crime, certainly has ZERO integrity nor does he have the trust of his constituents. What a mess!!
