Here we go again, another illustrious list of infamy, KISW 99.9 FM in Seattle, has once again compiled the Top 999 songs of all time, at least to listeners who sent in their top nine entries online! So who's at #1?? Who made it on, and who didn't? Any new surprises?
Well, as I've been listening, seems like the list never changes, just things differently placed over the countdown. One song may be up one year, then down the next. Also I've noticed that say you have one artist who was huge twenty to twenty-five years ago in the 80's, who has had a career resurgence in the past few years. Any chances they will make it back on the list with their new stuff? Not really. They apparently have their older stuff on there, but forget any of the newer songs! So there are many glaring omissions on the chart, but maybe a few surprises. Let's take a look:#Number: Song: --Artist: 999 CHINESE DEMOCRACY --GUNS N' ROSES 998 GIRLS --BEASTIE BOYS 997 PRETTY PENNY --STONE TEMPLE_PILOTS 996 BALLS TO THE WALL --ACCEPT 995 LONG ROAD TO RUIN --FOO FIGHTERS 994 HIT THE LIGHTS --METALLICA 993 HARD SUN --EDDIE VEDDER 992 BRING THE NOISE --ANTHRAX 991 JUST LIKE PARADISE --DAVID LEE ROTH 990 BURNING DOWN ONE SIDE --ROBERT PLANT Interesting: one of the most anticipated releases all year hits the very bottom of the chart (and becomes the first song played). Will songs from the new album hit the chart again? We'll see about that... I would have placed "Balls to the Wall" much higher, but oh well. |

988 PLANET CARAVAN --PANTERA 987 LIT UP --BUCK CHERRY 986 INSIDE THE FIRE --DISTURBED 985 WAIT --WHITE LION 984 DEMENTIA --TAD 983 HOUSE OF PAIN --FASTER PUSSYCAT 982 THE ENEMY --GODSMACK 981 BOTHER --STONE SOUR 980 TALL COOL ONE --ROBERT PLANT Tad was literally one of the "biggest" names in grunge back in the late 80's/early 90's in the Seattle scene. Biggest because their frontman, Tad Doyle, was a rather rotund, plus-sized guy who played some of the loudest music of that era. Unfortunately, the band didn't go on to major stardom like many of their peers in the scene. |

968 THIS TOWN --GREEN_RIVER 967 SLUDGE FACTORY --ALICE IN CHAINS 966 PORCH --PEARL JAM 965 DEVIL'S DANCE --METALLICA 964 UNCLE TOM'S CABIN --WARRANT 963 ORIGINAL FIRE --AUDIOSLAVE 962 I DON'T WANT TO STOP --OZZY OSBOURNE 961 IT'S NOT MY TIME --3 DOORS DOWN 960 SUMMER SONG --JOE SATRIANI "This Town" was perhaps the first official grunge song by Seattle band Green River, who were named after a then-mysterious killer of young women who left their bodies around the rural areas of the infamous river in King County south of Seattle. The song came out in 1986, a few years before grunge became the biggest thing on the planet. The members of Green River went on to form such major influential underground bands of the early Seattle scene such as Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone. |

958 SHE --GREEN DAY 957 SPANISH CASTLE MAGIC --JIMI HENDRIX 956 EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU --UGLY KID JOE 955 BANG YOUR HEAD --QUIET RIOT 954 MY KINDA LOVER --BILLY SQUIER 953 SPEAK --GODSMACK 952 ALCOHAULIN' ASS --HELLYEAH 951 BOUND FOR THE FLOOR --LOCAL H 950 BY-TOR AND THE SNOW DOG --RUSH Actually, the song by Quiet Riot is not actually called "Bang Your Head", but "Metal Health". People call it that because of the catchy chorus. For that reason, this song is up on the list twice. |

Sully even sounds a bit like Layne Staley of AIC. |
