Default Gilligan's Island Movie

http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEcrahfjiqc8eh

Sherwood Schwartz, creator of The Brady Bunch, and his son Lloyd Schwartz are finally moving ahead on a big screen version of Gilligan's Island, a 1969 sitcom which the legendary producer also created. And if the two Schwartzs have it their way, Michael Cera will be slipping into that famous red shirt and white hat as Gilligan. They are also currently trying to nab Beyonce as sexy movie star Ginger.

Speaking with Tv Guide during his induction into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Sherwood explained that a deal, "Just happened in the last 48 hours. I can't take this much excitement at my age." Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on the hit series, likes the idea of Beyonce playing Ginger and stated, "There isn't anybody sexier than Beyonce!"

The Gilligan's Island movie doesn't have a set start date at this time, and no actors have been signed just yet. You can expect to hear more on this project in the very near future.

I don't know. It smells of ripoff to me like most TV to Movie films. I can see a plot with the shipwreck and headhunters and maybe almost getting rescued to setup a lame sequel.

I can see some artist doing revamped versions of GI theme song and it being overplayed on the radio.. I can see a whole lot of hype since this is one of the most popular sitcoms ever.

I hope I am wrong but I think there will be a exploitation of advid fans of the show which are many mostly of people who won't admit it.

Anyway. That said. I will be the first in line to see it I am sure.

Sorry but Beyonce playing Ginger just doesn't work. To keep the integrity of the show she needs to be a stunning redhead like Tina Louise was.

these modern movie remakes of classic shows always suck - expect them to make some ridiculous casting choices like Seth Rogen as the Skipper, Steve Carrell as Mr Howell, or one of the Owen Brothers or Ben Stiller as the Professor...

Couldn't agree more. Reminds of having Will Smith playing Robert Conrad's role in The Wild Wild West, should have been a good looking white man. Hope that doesn't sound prejudice, it's not meant to be but placing dark people in roles just for PC's sake annoys the heck out of me.

If they do it right and maybe use unknowns like in the Brady Bunch movies it might work.

I dont find it racist at all, and besides I cant stand Will Smith.

Anyhow I do agreee Beyonce is a bad choice to play Ginger. This is one movie I wont catch.

You are so right. That was a great movie and the only one that worked. Because they used unknowns and also because they came up with the wicked cool idea of putting the characters in a time warp.

They tried to ruin it by doing a forgettable sequel. But still the Brady Bunch Movie is the best of these kinds..

I can see a stupid script with Ben Stiller or Owen Wilson playing Gilligan. I just wouldn't be able to watch it...Because it would be those actors ...

If you use unknown all you will think of is the character. Not the actor playing the character...

Yeah, no one is saying they will be a klansman or a Nazi. LOL!

Like the Charlie's Angels remake casting was AWFUL. None of the 3 girls were as hot as the original and WHY pick an Oriental girl when the orignal Angels were NOT Oriental?

Why not add an Inuit, an aboriginal, and a Sicilian? LOL!

Exactly!! With the Bradys you had the familiar feel of the original. I liked the Gilligan special with Dawn Wells it was unknown actors and it was pretty good, it also had the Gilligan feel to it as well.

There's been a Gilligan's Island big screen movie talked about for years now but remember they talked about Jim Carey being Gilligan?

I think he would be the best. I know some may say he's too old but he doesn't look that old and with makeup and Hollywood magic he wouldn't look too old.

I dunno. I would still see it but we know Jim Carrey's act and he is better playing original characters. I thought he was horrible as Andy Kaufman..

Plus Gilligan is portrayed as a very young adult if not a teenager on the series. regardless of hollywood magic the audience knows...and the audience can't buy into it.

It was hard enough to buy into an older Bob Denver in the reunion movies.

I think the unknown idea is a great one..but of course they probably won't go that way.

I think it was that CBS special rehashing the events that put GI on the air. around 2001 or so. I am sure you saw it if you are a fan. It was kind of a dramatization of what the actors went through.

They did one about Three's Company and Batman as well if I remember.

It was called Surviving Gilligan's Island: The Incredibly True Story of the Longest Three Hour Tour in History. It featured Dawn Wells, Russell Johnson, and Bob Denver reminiscing about the show. This was interspersed with dramatizations by unknown actors portraying the cast circa 1964-1967.
