Default Beckinsale eyes Catwoman role

world entertainment news WENN

Actress Kate Beckinsale would love to play Catwoman in the next Batman movie - because she is determined to take on more action roles.

Speculation has been growing in recent months over which actress will take on the role of the villainess in a follow-up to this year's The Dark Knight, with internet gossips suggesting that Angelina Jolie is the main contender for the part.

But Beckinsale is adamant that if she was offered the chance to star opposite Christian Bale in a new film about the Caped Crusader, she would definitely agree.

She tells MTV.com, "Absolutely, that would be awesome. I'd love to do that."

And Beckinsale adds that she is keen to add to her action movie portfolio, because starring in the Underworld vampire movie franchise gave her the confidence to tackle more physical films.

She adds, "One of the things I've done wrong with my career is not have a massive game plan for it. I was very surprised to ever find myself even considered for an action movie. I'm like the literary, academic geek who's not very good at sports, so it was amazingly shocking that anyone would ever do that. I like to be surprised."

I hate Catwoman, but that would be hot.

She would be a good candidate for the part. Thanks Janice.

she'd make an interesting catwoman and i think that she'd definitely do the character and the film justice.

It'd be nice for the Nolan Batman series to actually have a female character played by a talented and credible actress.

i agree. although michelle phieffer was an excellent catwoman in batman returns. personally speaking, i think that for the roles of the riddler and catwoman, i think that they should cast non- a listers, instead of considering the likes of angelina and johnny depp, regardless of how good at acting they are. i just don't see them as catwoman and the riddler.

I doubt the Riddler is going to be in the next Batman. If he is, I hope the Depp rumors stop... that wouldn't really even work.

Personally, my favorite rumor is Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin

From what I have read online in the rumors department, Rachel Weisz is currently the top contender for the Catwoman role.

if anything, he is probably the only actor we could think of who looks able to pull off a good rendition of the penguin. not to mention he has the right build for the character. as for the riddler, no depp, but i also don't want jim carrey back either. my choices would be either crispin glover or my avator, michael urie.

i understand that some fans don't want the riddler, mainly because he is in many ways, similar to the joker, but if they cast the right guy in the role, i think this could pay off and the film might be a success, after all.

Unfortunatly, Christopher Nolan said a while back that the Penguin wasn't "realistic" enough to fit into his Batman universe, so I doubt we'll see him in the next movie.

Hoffman played a great villain in Mission Impossible 3, so if they wanted to tweak the Penguin character to be more like that, then it would be cool.

But Hoffman would essentially be playing the same character.

I can see Depp playing Riddler much easier than I can seeing him play Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows
