my son often asked what age but have Richie, Fonzie, potsie, Ralph, Joanie and Chachi?

I find that it has often done a great deal of confusion, especially with Joanie and Chaci,

between the 5th and 7th season clearly Chacha and a year younger than Joanie but the 8th onwards are strangely Chaco and Joanie in the same class and "It only hurts when I smile" Joanie told Howard that Chacha and you have the same age but in "Scholarship" Fonzie says, Chaco has 17. In "They call it love Pots" of the 3rd season, Joanie says that ¾ 14 and older but then in the 5th season said to have 15 in 6 ° 16 .... has not completed the years in the 4th season?

In "Richie's job" Richie says Joanie next year will go to university, the episode in question is the 7th season but Joanie for the 8th and 9th season is still in high school

with Richie, potsie and Ralph are pretty sure that 1th season in 15 years and have nell'11th 25

Fonzie, I would say that grows from 20 to 30 years.

for you?

Not to mention that when the show first started even Winkler was close to 30 but was playing a 17 year old! It was bad for that all the way through the series.

When Chachi first appeared in the 5th season, I don't remember if they mention his exact age, but he was supposed to be younger than Joanie. I'm guessing he was 14.

As for Joanie, I think she was 12 during the 1st season and by the time the show ended she must've been 20-22. She was 14 in season 3, 15 in seasons 4 & 5, then she has her Sweet 16 party in season 6. However, she & Chachi remained as seniors in seasons 7,8 & 9. In Joanie Loves Chachi they were 18 (it is mentioned in several episodes).

These inconsistencies are due to writers not paying attention to characters ages throughout the series, or maybe as they brought in new writers who didn't much about the series they just couldn't keep up with all the facts.

JMO though. Hope this helps.

Actually, Fonzie was Ninteen in the First Season, which makes sense, since he's supposed to be older then Richie but certainly not TOO much older then Richie. So I say he goes from Ninteen to Twenty- Eight in Eleven Years.

Here's My Run-Down of the Ages as set in the first season:

Richie - 17 (Assuming He Met Fonzie Early on during the Timeframe of the first Season, also in 'Our Gang' the Waitress takes note that Richie and Potsie are Sophomores in High School, so let's assume Richie is a Sophomore in High School in the First Season. Then Season Two would have run throughout his Junior Year and perhaps Season 3 ran through the Summer of his Junior Year into his Senior Year taking us to Season Four, where they Graduate High School in the Middle of the Season) PS: I know, it's complicated!

Potsie - Same as Richie (See Above)

Ralph - Same as Richie & Potsie (See Richie)

Fonzie - 19 (I read this in a book called "Happier Days" which takes a look at Paramount Sitcoms like 'Happy Days', and 'Laverne and Shirley')

Joanie - 12 (She says she's Fourteen in 'Howards 45th Fiasco' during Season 3, and since Richie would possibly be entering his Senior Year (Junior Year Summer) it would work, though one might argue some of the winter-set episodes dispurse this idea)

Now for some of the other Kids on the Show, who came in Later:

Chachi - 14 [In Fifth Season] - (I'm going to assume this since Chachi is supposed to be AT LEAST close to Joanie's age. Perhaps Joanie turned fifteen before Chachi did? This means he would be 20 in the end of the series)

OK, So here are their presumed ages at the end of Season Eleven:

Richie - 26 (I know, Ron Howard looks a LOT older then 26 but I think 26 fits since Richie is presumingly 19 when he graduates in Season 4)

Potsie - Same as Richie (See Above)

Ralph - Same as Potsie (See Richie)

Fonzie - 28 (He would have Turned 20 during Richie's Junior Year, and 21 in Richie's Senior Year in Season 4, then just add One to his age for the remaining seven years of the show)

Joanie - 21 (Joanie is Five Years Younger then Richie, then just follow the same procedure as Fonzie/Richie/Potsie and Ralph)

Chachi - 20 (See First Note on Chachi for Reasons Why)

And I think that's all the kid's ages!

No offense, but how do you manage to spell Chachi's name differently every time you type it?

As for the ages, just like the years the show took place, as the series went on, the writers took more and more liberties and didn't really follow any specific dates or ages of the characters consistently. Generally speaking, though, Fonzie was a couple of years older than the other guys, and Chachi was slightly younger than Joanie.

Actually, and I think that he even admitted to it in his autobiography, Garry Marshall isn't a huge stickler for continuity. If it comes down to choosing between the timing of a line, or an interesting story, or a moment, he said that continuity would be his last concern.

Personally, I don't think that any of TPTB that were involved thought the show would evolve into such a huge hit, much less a pop culture icon, so they weren't paying much attention to the details. Let's face it, this is the show that never discussed Chuck Cunningham's bizarre disappearance.

Going a little off topic, but I have always thought that it would have been such a cool thing during the hey day of the X-Files that Marion Ross and Tom Bosley would have played a couple who's eldest son, Chuck, had disapeared years earlier in an alien abduction.

Yes, I think about stuff like this at 3AM when i can't sleep; don't judge.
