Default Other towns (besides Mayberry) in Mayberry County!

I guess (applying reallife logic to this make believe show) there are no other towns. But there might be train stops that could have been towns if there had been settlers in them that are in Mayberry County and under andy's jurisdiction. Just a guess! I like to think the Darlings lived on a spot that was part of the neighboring county (and that was recently incorporated into Mayberry County) and that's why Andy didn't know them all along!

According to the map in "The Andy Griffith Show Book" by Ken Beck and Jim Clark, there are quite a few towns in Mayberry County. Among them are Bannertown, Fancy Gap, Elm City, and Triplett. The map also shows the railroad passing thru Mayberry, the Darling's cabin and Ernest T's cave situated up in the NW corner of the county.
There is a redrawing, not an exact copy, of the map at mayberry.com. Here is the addy to it.

Interesting and thanks Sar. But we never actually verbally hear about these towns in the show being in Mayberry County (or did we?) and the Andy Griffith Show book actually says something like that Mt. Pilot is in the same county as Mayberry in some eps and a different county in other eps. At least the writers of the book and I agree the Darlings were on the outer fringes of Mayberry County (my resurvey-the-county theory could have canon show validity). Besides maybe the map in Andy's office (seen on the show) is old and these towns went abandoned (or just into the neighboring counties) a while ago and the county neglected to replace it with a new map and the train stops are all that's left of any other county municipalities of any sort.

In fact, Sar, the more I think about it I know for sure there was no ep when Barney was written to say something like that he just came back from patrolling Elm City or Triplett. These towns may indeed just be near Mayberry town and not in the county itself. My train stop theory is probably by and far best!

I just watched the ep where Barney arrests many Mayberry citizens at once and becomes a joke to the town of Mayberry. That's the ep mentioning a courthouse in Centerville. Andy is heading over to Centerville by bus I think to testify at atrial. Its too inconclusive to be sure that Centerville is actually in Mayberry County!

Other evidence of no other towns in Mayberry County are that Andy hires no deputy after Warren leaves to help him patrol the other towns in the county (had there been any which most likely there wasn't). And in Mayberry RFD there is no more Mayberry Sheriff once Andy quits the job. The North Carolina State Police handle all of Mayberry's crime prevention needs!

That's interesting that there was no replacement Sheriff after Andy left. Was it specifically stated that the NCSP took over the crime and other duties Andy and Barney once did?

I reckon that I always just thought that the replacement Sheriff wasn't in the clique like Andy was, maybe more of a traditional all business kind of law enforcement man, or simply not in the stories, as the majority of Mayberry residents weren't.

The interesting questions and speculations just grow and grow...

I was watching the "Fun Girls" episode, or rather the earliest one where Barney's trying to get Andy a woman, and the girls are mentioning several towns where they can party... it went by too fast for me to note but there were about three towns named, one of which is the location of the Gigalo Room, which has a "floor show"...
