Default The Short-Lived "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!"

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was a short lived television series based around the Nintendo video game characters "The Mario Brothers"; lasting from September - December 1989.

The first and last parts of the show were live-action; Professional Wrestler Captain Lou Albano played Mario and actor Danny Wells played Luigi. The premise of this was showing how the Mario brothers lived while being visited by celebrity guests which consisted of:
Norman Fell
Eve Plumb
Ernie Hudson
Vanna White
Sgt. Slaughter
Roddy Piper

The middle part of the show was a 13 minute animated segment featuring the Mario Brothers characters.

Fridays were treated with a "special" because the Mario cartoons were not shown. Instead it was an animated series based on the Zelda video games.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is known for it's campy tone, horrible acting, horrible animation; and it is not viewed favorably upon by Nintendo and Mario brothers fans.

Nevertheless, the series came to DVD in October 2006.

Did you ever get to see this when it aired? I remember this series and I watched it all the time as a kid.

I know for a fact that the show lasted longer than it was stated in this post. I don't know who posted the info in Wikipedia, but obviously they didn't do their research, nor watched the show.

Nope, according to IMDB the show lasted 60 something episodes; over a span of 4 months.
A new Mario series came after this.

130 episodes, if you believe IMDB. Not trying to be argumentive, but the show did last longer than 4 months. In my area, it ran for almost 2 years under the Super Show title.

I remember later the live-action Mario & Luigi were eliminated and replaced by some long-haired heavy metal punk teenagers and it was re-billed as CLUB MARIO. Later there was Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World on NBC. Remember when NBC used to show cartoons on Saturday Mornings? <grin>
