ROMANTIC comedy films like The Wedding Planner can spoil your love life, a study suggests.
Relationship experts say the “rom coms” make people unhappy by promoting unrealistic expectations of their other halves. The experts add that fans of such films often fail to communicate with their partners effectively, thinking that if their love is “meant to be”, their partner should know what they want without being told. Psychologists at the Family and Personal Relationships Laboratory at Edinburgh’s Heriot- Watt University studied 40 box office hits from 1995 to 2005. They included the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film You’ve Got Mail, plus the Jennifer Lopez movies Maid In Manhattan and The Wedding Planner. Researcher Kimberly Johnson said: “Films capture the excitement of new relationships but they wrongly suggest that trust and committed love exist from the moment people meet, whereas these take years to develop.” The researchers have launched an online study into the media and relationships. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/...our-love-life- |
