Default Perfect Bid - TPIR

Anybody see this today (12/16/08)? The guy who won the showcase at the end of the show (actually, both showcases)...a perfect bid...to the dollar....$56,437. What are the odds?!?!?

Drew mumbled something about "hasn't been done since 72 or 73" if I heard correctly.

Unbelievable. Especially since the lady he was up against was only off by about 500 bucks on her bid and thought she had it in the bag.

Yep, I just saw it as well, and I knew right away someone was going to mention that great moment on these boards.

I saw it too! It's the first time it's happened in the daytime TPIR. As Drew mentioned, it happened in 1972 or 1973 in the nighttime syndicated TPIR with Dennis James.

Everyone better watch out because over at golden-road.net, Drew Carey is facing some very harsh criticism about the lackluster way he revealed the prices of the showcases that day.

as for drew's reaction.. i think he knew something was strange, and i bet he thought it wasnt legit, so he didnt want to show excitement for something he felt was wrong.. he didnt want to show any sort of happy emotion if he thought he cheated in the showcase and didnt deserve that reaction regardless of the situation... im sure if he felt it was a legit game, he would have went over the top..

Default Honest to Goodness

Well the guy who won with the perfect bid his name is TERRY, and there was no cheating, no signals, no scratch pad. I know this guy and he is bright, did anyone see the grill he won and bid 1175 on it for a perfect bid to get up to the showcase wheel? well the PIR had that grill on 5 times within 3 months, can you say DUH. I went to the show, and did not get on, came back and told Terry and his wife, what a nice experience it was, Terry took his wife and got on the show. And now he's a star. And Drew did understate the excitement, Drew did not know how to react, it's never happed in 38 years, give drew a break. Oh, and nice bid by the lady who won the car.

Friend of
"I know Terry"

I stopped posting there because there was far too many negative threads along the lines of 'Drew stinks'. Drew is human, just like anyone else. I'm also offended by some people at that board, I felt they were making derogratory remarks about Asperger's Syndrome and Bi-Polar Syndrome. As someone who suffers from depression, I found it very offensive!

From now on, I only go there to read the recaps of episodes I missed, instead of reading negative threads.

I saw the episode. That was an unbelievable moment -- I think the audience was stunned. The other contestant's bid had been revealed to be very good, then bang -- the guy's perfect bid was shown for his showcase.

I do think Drew could have shown more emotion -- I don't know. It was a weird moment, but maybe it should have been played up to be one of the all-time TPIR highlights.

I agree with you on that...I finally checked that board out after hearing so many mentions of it here... I will never look at it again.. They are a bunch of weird souls on that board... It seems to me you can't have an opinion on that board. I think I ran into a few of them during one of my backstage trips a few years back.. I recognize the names of a few of them

If you click on the above link, the reader's comments are hilarious.

"Price Is Right" Miracle, Drew Couldn't Care Less

One of the most unbelievable things ever happened on the set of the yesterday's "Price is RIght" -- some dude nailed the price of his showcase to the exact dollar -- and host Drew Carey couldn't have looked more bored.

No one has pulled off an exact bid in more than 30 years -- plus, the dude had already won $500 in cash for nailing the exact price of a cooker earlier in the show -- but after the showcase stunner, Drew was more fired up to talk about spaying and neutering pets.

A TMZ spy who happened to be in the audience during the taping says when Drew knew the guy hit the exact number, he stopped down taping and had a pow-wow with show producers for nearly 30 minutes. Our spy thinks they were trying to figure out how to handle the situation on camera. Unfortunately, when they resumed taping, Drew's reaction was a little less than spectacular -- while the crowd went insane.

Maybe in another 36 years, he'll show a little more excitement.

This still bugs me. Every time I get the chance to watch TPIR, I become more and more disappointed in Drew Carey as host.

I know this is going to be met with alot of negative comments but here is what really happened........The contestant met a man who is a game show savant fanantic while waiting online.....this man is well known in the serious game show collectors circuits, he has a website but is lying low right now...he told everyone that he knows all the prices and if they were to get out of contestants row, look for him.....he has been previously banned but managed to get in around the third row no less........the contestant listened to him and guessed exactly to get out of the row, when he guessed the showcase amount, he looked over to him first....a 45 minute break was taken and the production staff realized what happened.....the savant now has been absolutely banned from studio tapings......BTW....the producers have a clause in all game show agreements that if the episode doesn't air, the prizes don't have to be awarded...but CBS didn't feel the contestant actually cheated....the savant was digitally taken out of the broadcast by slightly blowing up the screen to take him out of the shot.......I have all this info from very inside production meetings.

I read this from different websites, so I definitely believe you. This explains why Drew was not showing any enthusiasm during the reveal, he thought the contestant was cheating.
