How's this for irony? A Lancaster, S.C., woman, Mrs. Clara Stroud, died just hours after her husband, Tom. In each case, the heart stopped. Said a daughter-in-law: "Her heart stopped because his stopped. Their hearts beat
together." Tom Stroud, 75, and Clara, 74, were married 54 years. Family members said, "She died of a broken heart." One son added: "Daddy never could go nowhere without Momma." |

I've heard about that kind of thing happening before. It's incredible, isn't it?

^ yah - so have I. I've heard of it within days or weeks though usually. It's almost as though they were hanging on for each other.
That's how I had hoped I'd go - with a life partner like that. Sad, but kinda nice actually. |

my local paper had 2 couples within weeks of each other die a day apart in the obituary section. i thought maybe from an auto accident, but they all died in the nursing homes they lived in. its kind of sweet in a way.

My husband always told me that he had a dentist before he met me who died of a broken heart. I wouldn't want to live if my husband died, and I'd wish for death. This cruel world is tough enough with him by my side. Alone, no way.

That actually happened with my mother's mother and brother. My nana died of Alzheimers in Spetember 2003. My uncle, who had health problems for years and was never expected to make it as far as he did, died in November 2003. It's almost like he waited for his mother to go first.

It's certainly scary on your own. I always felt the same too. That's why I feel like I've just been flopping around like a fish out of water. They become so much a part of you that it is like a part of you dies with them. And actually, they don't even have to die for you to feel like that. Just leaving you is enough. My biggest fear isn't dying, but dying alone. |
