Bad Teachers You Have For School - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Since I'm a student at a community college right now, I thought I would ask what teachers/professors now or in the past you hated or were really bad, guy or gal. I'm taking 4 classes this Fall Semester and I have this history- Western Civ. professor that is HORRIBLE. He's not a bad guy, sort of, but he doesn't teach. He stands around once a week for an hour to 2 hours, once he talked for the whole 2 and a half hour period, doesn't interact with the class, doesn't ask questions too often. The only time he talks to us when he is going through the discussion, is when he asks what we talked about last class period. I am underachieving in that class (I'm around a high D/a C right now with a week left). What about you? Bad teachers you have had or have currently at school and what makes them bad, and even the subject they teach or DON'T TEACH- in my case lol.

in high school i was so excited to take a class called communications media since i was very interested in journalism. the teachers name was mr. rapley and although i had nothing against him personally, personality wise he was nice, he didn't teach at all. he gave us a book on the 1st day that we NEVER used the whole semester. it was the first class of the day so when we'd walk in we'd watch a 1/2 hour of the today show then the x files or the simpsons or something else another student taped off tv and brought in to watch. we did this every day, 90 minutes a day from Sept-Jan. NO LIE! Now maybe I'm in the minority for complaining as its an easy "A" but i was looking forward to learning more about journalism and felt cheated because a teacher was too lazy to do his job.

I have really disliked one teacher in my whole educational career. It was my high school biology teacher. He was an intelligent man but he didn't have a good teaching style or attitude when it came to dealing with students who weren't good in the science subjects. Science is my worse subject and there were times in that class when I asked him for help and he would get pissed right away and tell me off for not understanding the material. He treated a few other people in my class the same way. I didn't consider him a good teacher at all. I would define a good teacher as someone who steps up to teach both the students who are good at the subject and the students who aren't good at the subject. This teacher was only a teacher for the students who have the aptitude for science. My high school was a small school in a small town. The next year I was junior and I was put into his chemistry class and got out right away to take an astronomy class with a different teacher. I still see my teacher around town when I go home to visit. He is the only teacher I will not talk to in public.

I've had too many! The worst of the worst:

* My Spanish I Professor who taught the entire first class in spanish. She called the roll and went over the syllabus, the rules, lab requirements - EVERYTHING - en español. I thought I had stumbled into spanish II by mistake. At the end of class, she said "If you didn't understand anything I said, you are in the right class." But, she never went over the syllabus or anything she had said again. I was lost the rest of the semester.

* I once had a professor who always injected her prejudices into her remarks. She once told a friend of mine (an Asian) who didn't know how to use a video camera that she should know how because they were made in her country.

* I had a math professor that almost always called class off if it was raining. She wouldn't send an email or anything so I would get to class and she wouldn't be there. At the time I was in a wheelchair and I felt like if I could get myself to class, she should be able to do the same.

* For a long time, I had math phobia because in the 5th grade I had a teacher who would make you stand in a square if you got a problem wrong. You would just stand there until the solution magically popped in your head or most likely until class was over. A lot of times, she would make us sit by ourselves in lunch too. Nuts!

I haven't had TOO many bad experiences, but there have been a few. Any professor who is only there to collect their paycheck, and doesn't care about what the students learn is horrible. It's very easy to figure out these type of people. I have had a couple of these for math classes (which I hate to begin with).

I also hate teachers who have a select group of favorite students who's grades they curve unfairly. If you are going to curve grades, do it for everyone. I had a Spanish teacher who did that my freshman year of college. She would also constantly put down this country, and go off about how great Mexico is.

I don't recall too many college profs that were too impressive. I guess they feel adults should just pay and then learn on their own.

I've had two teachers who weren't bad, but they were boring and weren't very helpful. Their classes weren't really educational to me, either.
During Summer semester, I took American Government which was a crappy, boring class that I went to at 5pm and didn't get over with until around 10pm. I always felt like falling asleep through the class and it was all lectures, we were never given anything. I hate classes with just tests because I seem to do terrible, no matter how much attention I pay or how many articulate notes I take.
I'm taking a class this semester called Art and Architecture History and that one is about the same as the American Government, but I have it in the morning. Again with the lectures and the only assignment being tests. Why are these teachers too lazy to actually give out homework other than studying?

Thankfully in both classes I've got/been getting by with a C average, but I think that the learning involved with the class is critical thinking, which is my weak area.

I have had similar teachers like the Spanish teacher. They basically have a lot of bias against certain groups and students. It sounds like the Spanish teacher was biting the hands of the American students paying her paycheck.

This is a good thread and a very good question, wreckless. I have had quite few bad teachers, but I will tell you of an example of one.

My 8th grade math teacher. Math was my weakest and worst subject. The teacher knew it, and he taught the class as a whole. He didn't get into the students individually, nor did he break anything of the lessons down. It was his way or no way. I was not getting the math at all. He wouldn't come around to help students, all he did was teach at the board and pass out tests. I got straight E's all year. I can honestly say I didn't learn a damn thing in his class.

I will tell you what a "good teacher" he was. One day, he was at the board talking and all of a sudden he stopped talking about math and told the class that he was getting a new car that day! He broke it down between two cars he showed us pictures of! What did that have to do with what we were in his class for?! It wasn't like us students were going to be riding in it!

^ That sucks GK. What an idiot, talking about his car instead of Math. I have had plenty a bad teachers before lol. BTW, you have a good memory lol if you're recalling an 8th grade experience with a teacher of a subject you didn't like or were bad at maybe. Like myself, I am bad at and don't understand Math either but oh well haha.

Yeah, she definitely was. It was my first semester of college, so I especially didn't appreciate it. Luckily, I've had a number of really great professors to balance out the bad ones.
