Default The Big Bang Theory Is Becoming The Next Hit Sitcom- Look at These Numbers

The Big Bang Theory along with How I Met Your Mother are becoming the next big, hit sitcoms for CBS. Just look at the following data in how they are doing in the time slot vs. the other shows in the prior years in these time slots all in the first week in December. BBT is doing even better than King of Queens, which that had 9 seasons. Also note, that a few years ago there were no DVR's and cable channels were not as popular, so the numbers for the prior year's shows are inflated compared to what they would be today. Just look how BBT is doing vs. the other 8:00 shows. It is amazing how big of a hit this show is becoming. (First listed is viewers in millions, followed by the all important 18-49 demo) :

Monday 12/9/08:
8:00pm The Big Bang Theory, 10.50, 3.7
8:30pm How I Met Your Mother, 10.49, 4.2

Monday 12/10/07:
CBS:
8:00pm How I Met Your Mother: 8.45, 3.3
8:30pm The Big Bang Theory (R): 7.53, 2.8

Monday 12/11/06:
CBS:
8:00pm How I Met Your Mother: 8.81, 3.0
8:30pm The Class: 8.74, 3.1

Monday 12/12/05:
8:00pm The King of Queens: 9.51, 3.1
8:30pm How I Met Your Mother: 8.77, 3.0

Monday 12/13/04:

8:00pm Still Standing: 10.25, 3.2
8:30pm Listen Up: 10.49, 3.5

Agreed. I already see TBS written all over this for syndication. All the best go there, besides Two and a Half Men, which is going to FX.

I'll be honest with you, this show has amazed me. I never really imagined it was doing THIS well. It actually has passed King of Queens, which was a huge show for CBS that lasted 9 seasons.

By the way, Warner Bros. is already thinking about syndication rights. That is why they do not allow downloading of whole episodes. They did the same thing for Two and a Half Men.

King of Queens did better than that Super Bowl. Don't just go by one date's sample. But that was a different time. You can't compare the two. Just like how you can't compare BBT and 8SR...8SR in its first season easily did better than BBT in its first year or now.

BBT is doing excellent though! But don't compare it to the past and especially just one sampling for King of Queens, that is not fair or accurate to that show. King of Queens was near the end of its run then but was still doing over 10 million that season (2005-06).

Well Still Standing did decent when aired on Mondays then it bombed on Wednesdays. There were more live viewers then. Listen Up had OK ratings but was canceled after one season.

These numbers are completely accurately. There is a guy in another forum that posts them daily.

If you bothered to read I said that with DVR usage and more people watching cable channels that the numbers for the shows in these shows in the prior years will be higher which makes BBT and HIMYM beating these shows even more impressive. Hence, the next hit sitcoms.

hey, no need to jump all over me - I was just surprised to see numbers that high for those two shows (which I consider to be FAR inferior to either BBT or HIMYM)

...and I was just joking about the rat.

These sitcoms today are all the same, they all have one lame sex joke after another. Whatever happened to clever plots and quality writing? And the family sitcoms with kids are just as bad. The other night I saw an episode of According To Jim, the little girl in the show was mouthing off at Jim Belushi and calling him names. This type of behavior is accepted and considered "cute" nowadays. In the old days, if a kid would mouth off at their parents or call one of them a name, he/she would get a dose of good old fashioned discipline and get smacked across the mouth. Nowadays, parents don't discipline their kids, that is considered "child abuse". So the kids grow up bratty and think they can do whatever they want, they disrespect others and disrespect authority. This world has become a joke with all the nonsense that's going on.

In the old days of TV, there was quality programming and the half hour shows were 25 minutes while the hour long shows were 50 minutes. Today, they jam so many commercials into the shows making the half hour ones barely 20 minutes long and the hour long ones are barely 40 minutes. In a way I guess that's a good thing, these inferior modern shows are shorter due to more commercials which results in less program content. Problem is, the commercials are usually just as bad as the TV shows.

Big Bang Theory is a hit! It's doing outstanding for CBS - the most impressive thing is that its getting those ratings airing at 8pm. And, it's getting better ratings with every new episode it seems. Every week its a new series high for this show. Absolutely amazing.
