Wow.
I just got finished watching the first 10 minutes of that interview and what struck me was what a male chauvinist David Susskind was...and I'm a guy! That's not ripping him particularly, either, I'm not really familiar with him and that's just the way many men thought in 1966. But when he starts saying that you can always tell the married couple because the woman is always yapping and then he asks Mary if she agrees with him that working women are cheating their husbands and kids...sheesh! I sensed that Mary disagreed with him but didn't want to force the issue. Who knows...maybe that interview played a tiny part in Mary going ahead a few years later with the single-woman-successfully-juggles-work,-family-and-friends premise of the Mary Tyler Moore Show! |
