Default The Singles' Community

One thing that we confirmed a while back was the circumstances in which Cliff's mother moved back to Boston after having already set up shop in Florida. Before we move on with this topic, let us take a minute to review what we already know. She was able to afford Florida with the money that she made selling the suburban home in which she raised her one and only child. The company that she sold it to was one that built mini-malls. With Cliff's portion of the profits, he bought a home in a single's community in Boston. However, later on, there was an episode that dealt with her moving back to Boston after having lost all of her profits at the dog track. I do not think that I ever saw this episode and my only source of information is what I have read on boards like this one. At one point, a writer said that it was expressed through only one line! I have a very hard time understanding how a whole dynamic of the sereis could be changed through just one line! As I remember it, Cliff was quite happy in the singles' village where he had bought a condo. How did they deal with his willingness to sell his new home and take an apartment with his mother? If this was dealt with through just one line, what else went on in the episode? I remember how a lot of episodes had two issues going on at once. The one where Mrs. Claven sold her house is a good case and point. In between times that they were having the house discussion, we got to learn about the character of Rebecca having earned the nickname of "Back Seat Becky"!

If and when you see the season 9 episode "Ma Always Liked You Best," many of these questions should be answered. And Cliff didn't sell the condo; he invited Ma to move in with him, which she did. Visual proof can be seen in the season 11 episode "Look Before You Sleep""

I have a pretty vivid memory of the episode in which Cliff's Mom took a liking to Woody. Cliff had fear that she liked Woody more than him and that he had become like the child that she never had. This was the first time that she came back to visit after having bought her condo in Florida. However, I thought for sure that the episode ended with her heading back to her home down south. Was the dog track situation also tied into this episode? Also, I thought for sure that the place where Cliff had set up shop after his home was leveled was in a singles' community. It was the type of place that had parties, dances and other events that young and middle-aged people would attened to meet new friends. How, could a middle-aged man take his elderly mother into a place like this? It was my understanding that Cliff gave up life in the singles' village to take an apartment with his mother. If anyone out there knows what pieces of the puzzle I am missing, please help me out!

At this point, there is really one thing that I am still curious about. This is whether the home that Cliff asked his mother to come live with him in is the some residence that he obtained shortly after his suberban home was leveled. If it was, it would be hard to concieve being that, according to my memory, this home was in a singles community. If someone out there could tell me what piece of the puzzle I am missing, I would be very greatful!

Because of how slow the boards seem to be, I am going to see if I can start some conversation by brining this thread up to the top of the page. At this point, there is really only one piece of the puzzle that I am missing. It is my memory that after a short period of bunking with Norm Peterson and his wife, Cliff bought a condo in a singles' community. I also know that, after having set up shop in Florida, his mother moved back to Boston because she lost all of her money at the dog track. However, I thought that the place where Cliff lived with his mother the second time was an apartment building and not a comunity of condos. I guess what I am really asking is whether the place where he lived with his Mom was the same place that he moved into shortly after his suberban home was leveled. Any help anyone?
