this thread is for why albums didn't succeed...
The Case of Dream Street By Janet jackson The reason I feel that this album failed was because about every Jackson sibling had an album out around that year, 1984, and the brother who didn't have an album released that year, was still getting props for his Thriller album. Janet's voice sounded too girly in the album, and when she did try to sound tough,(Don't Stand Another Chance) she let her brothers produce and sing back up on the song and the song soudnded like a Jackson Family song, not a janet song. She was singing what her father wanted to sing, not what she wanted to sing.... She wasn't being independent yet...... She also let her father manage her, and he gave her sub-par producers to work with.....(for her, anyway).......... She was still being a lottle girl goody two shoes.... She later dropped the "little girl goody-two shoes" and became a tough, mature woman(Control) |

But Don't Stand Another Chance gave Janet her first crack on the pop charts, so it succeeded at least on that level.
