Be honest....do you REGIFT? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Just wanted to know has anyone regifted ever? I never have thus far but don't know if its really such a bad idea. i wanted to hear everyones thoughts. my husband got a lovely polo sweater last xmas that he never wore with its tags still attached and everything. he is the same size as my brother-in-law and i usually buy my brother-in-law a sweater for xmas anyway. would this be considered tacky?

I have - but only if it was a half decent gift that I just couldn't use.

I've never passed along the cheap, tacky ones though.

What I usually do is if it's a gift that's nice and somebody could use, I usually donate it to a gift drive - usually the CHUM City Christmas Wish (sponsored by CHUM radio). There was a beautiful twinset I got a couple of years ago in periwinkle - just beautiful, but not something I would wear at the time. I was quite happy to give it to the charity - some young girl who needed gifts badly would have been very happy Christmas morning opening that. Probably the nicest sweater she'd have.

Not at all. It's still new never worn with the tags. Why not? He doesn't have to know and you will save some money.

I have done it a couple of times no big deal.

The gifts I get that I don't like are usually so bad that I'm most likely to try selling them on eBay or donate them to a charity. I pride myself on giving cool gifts.

Last year, I got a sweater vest that had appliqued leaves on it. Who am I'm going to regift that to?

I think regifting is tacky and cheap. Unless the person who is receiving the gift is tacky and cheap themselves, I don't bother. I either return unwanted gifts or give them to charity.

only once, when i gave Dad a shirt he picked out for me one Xmas...it was horribly ugly, but, he loved it, so....Merry Xmas Dad!

No I never regift I just keep things that people give me, and I'll hold on to them for a long time and then years later I'll either donate it or throw it away. I have an Aunt who regifts just about everything people give her. So I've learned to just get her personal items.

I don't think I ever have, but I'm certainly not opposed to the idea, especially now, while I'm having such financial difficulties. I see nothing wrong with taking a gift that just wasn't right for you, and giving it to someone who might appreciate it more. Beats throwing it in the garbage!!

I'm not against it, but I don't do it. What I do often is I give away a gift I don't like. If someone gives me a Yankee candle, I'll give it to my niece who loves them, but I don't give it to her for her birthday or Christmas. I just give it to her. I know one couple, family members, who are so cheap that it looks like they take crap out of their attic to give as gifts. They got married about 15 years ago, and I swear they're still working on giving away their lousy wedding gifts.

Just kidding, I love Yankee, except for the stinky flower smelling ones. I think all the other ones are awesome though.

I don't think I have ever regifted. I figure if I didn't like the present all that much, I wouldn't feel right about handing it off to somebody else.

LOL - I remember them - like my estranged brother and his wife. What class acts they all are!!

And btw - what's on it's way to you was NEVER a gift to moi - nor can you buy it in any store - well, I guess you CAN, but you gotta put some work into it. I'm just praying you won't think it's tacky.

If it's something you can't use - let me know what you do like.

i usually don't. i rarely get a gift i don't like/can't return. but if i get something like lotion (that i already have a ton of and know i just won't use it), i don't want to waste it. so i'll just add it to a gift. it's never the main part of a gift; just something extra because i know the person will enjoy it and use it. otherwise, it goes to someone in the family who will actually use it. i'm not against re-gifting when it comes to that and if the presents are unworn/unused. some gifts, however, are just too unique to be regifted so i guess it depends on what it is.

Yes...like the time I got a Starbucks gift card. I don't drink coffee, so I gave it to my sister. She used it, so it was put to good use!!
